Informetrics Research Methods Outlined
2020This chapter provides a conceptual scope of informetrics by defining the concept and demonstrating its relationship with bibliometrics, scientometrics, webometrics, cybermetrics, and altmetrics. It demonstrates that informetrics is a quantitative research design that assumes a realistic ontology and objectivism as the epistemological perspective. Based

Informetrics: The development, conditions and perspectives
2017 40th International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO), 2017The paper gives an insight into the development of informetrics from its beginnings. Informetrics is a part of information sciences dedicated to measuring of information phenomenon. Informetrics can be defined as the discipline which studies quantitative aspects of information in any form not only within scientific community but also within any other ...

Category theory and informetrics: Information production processes
Scientometrics, 1992Egghe's continuous information production processes (in short IPP's) are described using category theory. Therefore, we first review the main ingredients of this mathematical theory, introduced byEilenberg andMac Lane more than four decades ago.

Bridging the gaps: Conceptual discussions on informetrics
Scientometrics, 1994In this paper we discuss the possible gaps between several subdisciplines in informetrics and between informetrics and other-metrics disciplines such as econometrics, sociometrics and so on. It is argued that in all these disciplines, common models exist which describe the main points of interest.

Abstract This study examines how informetric characteristics of information retrieval (IR) system databases can be used to help the systems designer decide what types of file structures would provide the best performance for a given type of information system environment.

Informetric explanation of some Leiden Ranking graphs
Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, 2013The S‐shaped functional relation between the mean citation score and the proportion of top 10% publications for the 500 Leiden Ranking universities is explained using results of the shifted Lotka function. Also the concave or convex relation between the proportion of top 100θ% publications, for different fractions θ, is explained using the obtained new

Generalized transfer principles in econometrics and informetrics
Scientometrics, 1992The generalized (also called extended) transfer principles as introduced in two earlier papers by Egghe and Rousseau are known to be stronger properties than the classical transfer principle of Dalton. Hence, functions satisfying one of these generalized principles are very good concentration measures.
