Metazoan parasite infracommunities of the Florida pompano (Trachinotus carolinus) were studied in terms of species composition, species richness, diversity, numerical dominance, and similarity. Seventy-five fishes were collected from 4 localities along the Yucatan Peninsula coast and 24 parasite species recovered.

Similarity in parasite communities of the teleost fish Pinguipes brasilianus in the southwestern Atlantic: Infracommunities as a tool to detect geographical patterns [PDF]
Patterns of distance decay in similarity among communities of the fish Pinguipes brasilianus (Teleostei: Pinguipedidae) from five areas in the southwestern Atlantic were investigated to determine whether the rate of decay varied depending on the ...

Infracommunities of Streblidae and Nycteribiidae (Diptera) on bats in an ecotone area between Cerrado and Atlantic Forest in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul [PDF]
We described infracommunities, prevalence and mean intensity of infestation of ecotoparasite flies (Nycteribiidae and Streblidae) on bats in an ecotone area of Cerrado as predominant vegetation, with influence of Atlantic Forest, in the southeast of Mato

Monogenean body size, but not reproduction, increases with infracommunity density
International Journal for Parasitology, 2022Body size reveals a plethora of life-history, ecological, and evolutionary information about a species. It plays a critical role in success or failure during competitive, reproductive, or predator-prey interactions. Typically, there is a negative relationship between body size and population density in natural populations and communities.

Male hosts drive infracommunity structure of ectoparasites
Oecologia, 2011We studied the co-occurrence of flea species in infracommunities of 16 rodents from four regions (South Africa, Tanzania, central Europe and western Siberia) using null models, and predicted that flea co-occurrences will be expressed more strongly in male than in female hosts.

Helminth infracommunity in a maned wolf, Chrysocyon brachyurus, from the humid Chaco, Argentina
Parasitology International, 2021Parasitism is an important factor in conservation worldwide, especially for endangered species, as it can affect host populations by reducing growth rates, fecundity and affecting nutritional status. The maned wolf Chrysocyon brachyurus, a near-threatened species, is distributed across different habitats from the south Amazonian forest in Brazil to ...

Patterns of infracommunity species richness in eels, Anguilla anguilla
Journal of Helminthology, 2004AbstractBetween October 1999 and October 2001, a total of 510 European eels Anguilla anguilla were captured in 13 different samples from the rivers Thames (five locations) and Test (one location) in southern England. The relationship between parasite component community species richness (CCR) and maximum infracommunity species richness (ICRmax ...

Richness, nestedness, and randomness in parasite infracommunity structure
Oecologia, 1996Within a host population, parasite infracommunities vary in both richness and species composition. If interspecific interactions among parasites are important in shaping infracommunities, the structure of these assemblages is expected to differ from the one predicted by null models, i.e. from the one that would result from chance alone. Using data from

Trophic status and helminth infracommunities of fish populations in Kashmir Himalayan lakes
Journal of Helminthology, 2013AbstractThe present study considers the influence of the trophic status of three Kashmir Himalayan lakes on the patterns of helminth infracommunities in populations of three species of fish during 2006 to 2008. Data were collected from three lakes of differing trophic status in the Kashmir Himalayas, namely Anchar, a hyper(eu)trophic lake; Dal, a ...

The extent to which the structure of parasite infracommunities and component communities is determined by the composition of the compound community was assessed by determining the importance of unspecific larval parasites relative to the other guilds (ectoparasites and adult endoparasites).
