Helminth Parasites of Sympatric Salamanders: Ecological Concepts at Infracommunity, Component and Compound Community Levels

American Midland Naturalist, 1987
Four species assemblages of desmognathine salamanders are sympatric in and along many mountain streams of the southern Appalachians. The species, Leurognathus marmorata, Desmognathus quadramaculatus, D. monticola and D. ochrophaeus, span an aquatic to terrestrial habitat continuum ranging from totally aquatic (L. marmorata) to primarily terrestrial (D.

Effects of resource availability and social aggregation on the species richness of raccoon endoparasite infracommunities

Oikos, 2011
Within populations the contact rate of hosts and infectious parasites is mediated by the interactions of resource availability, host density, and host behavior. Fluctuations in host density can result in the loss or extinction of a parasite population as contact rates between parasites and susceptible individuals drop below thresholds of parasite ...

Effects of Interspecific Interactions on Infracommunities of Helminths Parasitizing Creek Chub (Semotilus atromaculatus)

Comparative Parasitology, 2021
Natural infections of Allocreadium lobatum Wallin, 1909 (Trematoda), Proteocephalus sp. (Cestoda), Rhabdochona canadensis Moravec and Arai, 1971 (Nematoda), Paulisentis missouriensis Keppner, 1974 (Acanthocephala), and Schyzocotyle acheilognathi (Yamaguti, 1934) (Cestoda) in the intestine of creek chub (Semotilus atromaculatus) were analyzed to ...

Helminth Infracommunities of the Newt, Notophthalmus viridescens, from Turkey Marsh, Michigan

The Journal of Parasitology, 1991
Totals of 163 adult and 20 larval newts, Notophthalmus viridescens, collected monthly from March through September 1989 from Turkey Marsh, Michigan, were examined for helminths. Bothriocephalus rarus, Telorchis corti, Clinostomum sp., Megalodiscus temperatus, Halipegus sp., Spiroxys sp., and Falcaustra cates- beianae infected newts.

Helminth community of mammalian hosts: concepts at the infracommunity, component and compound community levels

1990
The literature on biotic and abiotic factors affecting transmission, survival and reproduction of helminths in domestic animals and humans, and on helminth surveys of wild mammals, are legion. However, of the examples cited in the review on communities of parasites by Holmes and Price (1986), few are drawn from studies on the helminths of mammals. This

Faunal similarity and infracommunity structure in the helminths of lesser scaup

1980
Doctoral thesis. Faunal similarities among the helminth infracommunities of 45 lesser scaup, Aythya a Hinis, from 13 lakes, representing 3 district biomes in Alberta, were compared using multivariate techniques.

Metazoan Parasite Infracommunities of Florida Pompano (Trachinotus carolinus) from the Coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

The Journal of Parasitology, 2002
Metazoan parasite infracommunities of the Florida pompano (Trachinotus carolinus) were studied in terms of species composition, species richness, diversity, numerical dominance, and similarity. Seventy-five fishes were collected from 4 localities along the Yucatan Peninsula coast and 24 parasite species recovered.

Helminth Infracommunities of the Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina serpentina) From Westhampton Lake, Virginia

Journal of Parasitology, 2009
Patterns of infracommunity similarity were examined for 27 male and 6 female common snapping turtles, Chelydra serpentina serpentina, collected from Westhampton Lake on the campus of the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, during the summer months of 1979 and 1980.
