SiO emission as a probe of cloud–cloud collisions in infrared dark clouds [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT Infrared dark clouds (IRDCs) are very dense and highly extincted regions that host the initial conditions of star and stellar cluster formation. It is crucial to study the kinematics and molecular content of IRDCs to test their formation mechanism and ultimately characterize these initial conditions.

An infrared study of the Ophiuchus dark cloud.

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 1978
A near-infrared survey has been conducted of nearly 18 square degrees of the Ophiuchus dark cloud complex. Additional observations have been made of selected objects found in this survey and of the brighter objects found by Grasdalen et al. and by Vrba et al. in this region in order to identify and study the young stars associated with the cloud. These

Properties of the infrared dark cloud G79.2+0.38

Chinese Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2005
Abstract The MSX infrared dark cloud G79.2+0.38 has been observed over a 11′×′ region simultaneously in the J=1-0 rotational transition lines of the 12CO and its isotopic molecules 13CO and 18CO. The dense molecular cores defined by the C18O line are found to be associated with the two high-extinction patches shown in the MSX A-band image.

Infrared dark clouds as precursors to star clusters

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2009
Infrared dark clouds (IRDCs) are cold, dense molecular clouds identified as extinction features against the bright mid-infrared Galactic background. Our recent 1.2 mm continuum emission survey of IRDCs reveals many compact (

The Infrared Dark Cloud G30.88+0.13

2014
Massive stars form from collapse of parsec-scale molecular clumps. How molecular clumps fragment to give rise to massive stars in a cluster with a distribution of masses is unclear. In this chapter, we search for cold cores that may lead to future formation of massive stars in a massive (\(>\) \(10^3\) \(M_\odot \)), low luminosity (\(4.6 \times 10^2\)

Infrared studies of two dark clouds

1978
NOTE: Text or symbols not renderable in plain ASCII are indicated by [...]. Abstract is included in .pdf document. The IC5146 dark cloud complex has been surveyed in the infrared in order to identify and study associated young stellar objects. Most of the objects detected in the survey appear to be field stars, predominantly late-type giants.
