Infrared Polarimetry of the Stars in the Inner Galaxy
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1986Near-infrared photometric and Polarimetrie observations were made for stars embedded in the galactic plane. The sources were picked up from two selected regions in the galactic plane (l = 20° and 30°). In total, 59 sources were observed, 35 of which were observed with polarimetry in the K-band (2.2 μm) and 44 were observed with photometry by the near ...

Starburst Galaxies: An Infrared Perspective
2005The infrared regime is a key range for studies of starburst galaxies. It contains a rich variety of tracers of the gas, dust, and star-formation activity and enables us to probe deep into dust-enshrouded star-forming regions. Selected results based on diagnostics at near and mid-infrared wavelengths are highlighted.

Infrared Background from Seyfert Galaxies
Nature, 1970Kleinmann and Low1 and Low2 have recently reported measurements of the infrared spectrum of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068. The spectrum was found to be sharply peaked at a wavelength of ∼100 µm (with an uncertainty of a factor of two or three toward longer wavelengths), while the total infrared luminosity amounts to L∼2.5 × 1046 erg s−1 (for a Hubble ...

Low-redshift Galaxies in the Infrared and Submillimetre
Astrophysics and Space Science, 2002In recent years the evolution of dust-enshrouded galaxies has become an important issue in cosmology. We present the results of a study linking the high- and low-redshift populations of such galaxies. Previously, a simplehierarchical clustering model was found to he successful in describing the high-redshift populations of dusty galaxies.

Ejection from Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies
2000Active galaxies, particularly Seyferts, have been shown to eject material in various forms including quasars with high intrinsic redshifts. A class of active galaxy which has so far not been analyzed from this standpoint is the so called Ultra Luminous Infrared Galaxies (ULRIG’s).
