Gamma-ray burster counterparts - Infrared

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1987
The discovery of an IR counterpart to a gamma-ray burster (GRB) would be a big step forward in understanding this enigmatic phenomenon. A program of searching for IR emission from the smallest GRB source regions has been initiated. Seven boxes have been searched with ground-based telescopes at a wavelength of 2.2 microns and 23 with the IRAS data base ...

Soft gamma-ray constraints on a bright flare from the Galactic Center supermassive black hole

open access: yes, 2009
Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) is the supermassive black hole residing at the center of the Milky Way. It has been the main target of an extensive multiwavelength campaign we carried out in April 2007.

Far-Infrared-Emitting Fabric Improves Neuromuscular Parameters in Humans: Unexpected Result from Eccentric Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage Countermeasure Strategy

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The present study examined the prophylactic effects of far-infrared-emitting fabric (FIR) on exercise-induced muscle damage and investigated its influence on neuromuscular parameters during eccentric exercise.

First detection of GeV emission from an ultraluminous infrared galaxy: Arp 220 as seen with the Fermi Large Area Telescope

open access: yes, 2016
Cosmic rays (CRs) in starburst galaxies produce high energy gamma-rays by colliding with the dense interstellar medium (ISM). Arp 220 is the nearest ultra luminous infrared galaxy (ULIRG) that has star-formation at extreme levels, so it has long been ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

The Nova V5584 Sgr: A Short Review

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2015
The nova V5584 Sgr was discovered during 2009 October. It has been monitored in different domains of the electromagnetic spectrum: optical, infrared and X-rays. The optical and infrared observations suggest that V5584 Sgr is a Fe II nova that formed dust.

Effect of infrared belt and hot water bag on labor pain intensity among primiparous: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2023
Background Labor pain is complex, paradoxical and varied in every parturient woman. Management of labor pain has been a crucial component in maternity care. Heat therapy is one of the proposed method for labor pain relief.

Pioglitazone plus (−)‐epigallocatechin gallate: a novel approach to enhance osteogenic performance in aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (

Gamma-Ray Cosmology and Tests of Fundamental Physics

open access: yesGalaxies, 2022
The propagation of gamma-rays over cosmological distances is the subject of extensive theoretical and observational research at GeV and TeV energies. The mean free path of gamma-rays in the cosmic web is limited above 100 GeV due to the production of ...
