Systematic Identification of Native Bacillus spp. as a Sustainable Approach to Mitigate Cadmium in Cocoa

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
Native Bacillus spp. isolated from cocoa fermentations demonstrate cadmium resistance and removal capabilities. Through a multidisciplinary approach combining genomics, metagenomics, electron microscopy and functional assays, we identified promising strains for sustainable cadmium bioremediation, offering a natural strategy to improve cocoa safety and ...

Mosaic morphology in Podocnemididae revealed by a new turtle from the Middle Miocene La Venta Biome, Colombia

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 11, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract A new genus and species of podocnemidid turtle, Shakiremys colombiana, is described here from the Middle Miocene La Venta Biome, located in south‐central Colombia. The new taxon is represented by two specimens: one consisting of a complete skull and articulated shell, and the other of an articulated shell only.

Spatio‐Temporal Representation of Mesoscale Convective Systems in Convection‐Permitting Simulations Over Northwestern South America: Insights Into Rainfall Overestimation

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract We perform km‐scale convection‐permitting simulations (Δx = 4 km) to represent Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCSs) in Northwestern South America using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. An algorithm to identify and track MCSs was used to characterize simulated MCS features and compare with satellite observations.
