Targeting Glutamate Excitotoxicity With Memantine Modulates Glial Response and Protects Motoneurons After Spinal Root Lesion

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 4, April 2026.
Motoneuron axotomy induced marked neuroinflammation, synaptic withdrawal, and structural remodeling in the ventral root crush (VRC) model, characterized by intense microglial and astroglial activation and reduced synaptic coverage. Memantine treatment produced consistent, dose‐dependent neuroprotection, with maximal effects at 45 mg/kg.

Comparative Efficacy of Posterior Versus Lateral Endoscopic Approaches in the Management of Complex Lumbar Disc Herniation: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 4, Page 695-709, April 2026.
PEID and PETD both demonstrate favorable clinical efficacy in treating the three types of complex lumbar disc herniation while showing differences in the extent of decompression achieved. ABSTRACT Introduction Complex lumbar disc herniation (CLDH), including huge, migrated, and calcified variants, poses surgical challenges due to factors such as deep ...

Similarity and dissimilarity in alterations of the gene expression profile associated with inhalational anesthesia between sevoflurane and desflurane.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Although sevoflurane is one of the most commonly used inhalational anesthetic agents, the popularity of desflurane is increasing to a level similar to that of sevoflurane.

Adenine base editing of CFTR using receptor targeted nanoparticles restores function to G542X cystic fibrosis airway epithelial cells

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Life Sciences
The cystic fibrosis (CF) causing variant G542X harbours a premature translation stop signal in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) mRNA. This results in nonsense-mediated decay and loss of functional CFTR protein which leads to
