Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

The Impact of Ambiguity and Risk on the Auditor's Assessment of Inherent Risk and Control Risk [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The purpose of this study was to try to identify the impact of ambiguity and risk on the auditor's judgment about inherent risk and control risk when planning the audit.

Product infant failure risk modeling based on quality variation propagation and functional failure dependency

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2018
Product infant failure is the most crucial part of product quality risk that critically affects customer satisfaction. However, most of manufacturers lack sufficient understanding of the formation mechanism of product infant failure and quantitative ...

Considerations Relating to Specific Inherent Risk and Control Risk

open access: yesAnuarul Universitatii Petre Andrei din Iasi. Fascicula Drept, stiinte economice, stiinte politice, 2020
Audit risk (Ra) occurs if financial statements belonging to the firm are majorly distorted, in which case an auditor may give a defective opinion on them. This risk depends on the risk of significant distortion (Rds) and on the risk of detection (Rd).

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Audit Risk Management and Audit Effort in Small and Medium Audit Firms

open access: yesRevista de Contabilidad: Spanish Accounting Review
The purpose of this paper is to analyze audit planning decisions of small and medium-sized Spanish audit firms and the resulting impact on audit risk and effort. Prior research examining audit risk overwhelmingly focuses on Big 4 audit firms, and little

Is the inherent potential of maize roots efficient for soil phosphorus acquisition?

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Sustainable agriculture requires improved phosphorus (P) management to reduce the overreliance on P fertilization. Despite intensive research of root adaptive mechanisms for improving P acquisition, the inherent potential of roots for efficient P ...
