Inherent strains in chemical-vapor-deposited bilayer graphene on Cu

Carbon, 2021
Abstract The electrical properties of bilayer graphene (BLG) are strongly affected by external forces. Here we use Raman spectroscopy to study the inherent strain states of BLG synthesized by chemical vapor deposition method on Cu, by manipulating 13C isotope atoms to substitute part of one layer in AB-stacked and twisted BLG to differentiate the ...

Measurement of welding residual stresses of reactor vessels by inherent strain method – Diagnosis of inherent strain distribution function

Welding International, 2013
The fundamental objective of this study is to ensure the safety of nuclear reactors. A few accidents involving leaks from welded zones at the pipe penetration part of reactor vessels or at coolant pipes have been reported at home and abroad. One of the main causes is welding residual stress.

Using Tendon Inherent Electric Properties to Consistently Track Induced Mechanical Strain

Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 2012
The present work explores the possibility that the inherent electrical properties of a tendon might allow it to act as its own strain gauge. Tendon has been shown to exhibit piezoelectric effects as well as streaming potentials when subjected to a mechanical stress.

Molecular Mechanochemistry: Engineering and Implications of Inherently Strained Architectures

2015
Mechanical activation of chemical bonds is usually achieved by applying external forces. However, nearly all molecules exhibit inherent strain of their chemical bonds and angles as a result of constraints imposed by covalent bonding and interactions with the surrounding environment.

Realistic interseismic strain rate uncertainties from inherently sparse GNSS-networks

2023
Before geodetically derived strain and rotation rates can be robustly compared to geological or seismological observations, we need reliable strain rate uncertainties. Various methods exist to compute strain rates from GNSS-derived interseismic velocities, but a realistic representation of interpolation uncertainties has remained a challenge ...
