Inherent Strain Method for Residual Stress Measurement and Welding Distortion Prediction
Volume 9: Prof. Norman Jones Honoring Symposium on Impact Engineering; Prof. Yukio Ueda Honoring Symposium on Idealized Nonlinear Mechanics for Welding and Strength of Structures, 2016Inherent strain method was employed to measure the distribution of three dimensional welding residual stresses in several multi-pass welded joints of thick pipes and thick cladded plates. Since a function expression approach to the distribution of inherent strains was developed, the measuring efficiency for three dimensional internal welding residual ...

Welding International, 1995
Summary This paper describes application of the thermal elastic‐plastic FEM method to analyse three‐dimensional residual stresses in single‐pass and multi‐pass fillet welds. The inherent strains generated in the fillet welds are expressed by series functions with good accuracy.

Welding and Straightening Simulation of a Deckhouse Structure Using Linear Inherent Strain Method
2018Welding is the most widely used assembly method available to industries in the construction of ships and offshore platforms. However, this method always produces a certain amount of distortion that will not only degrade the performance but also increase the building cost of the structure, and it should be straightened.

Prediction of Butt Welding Deformation of Curved Shell Plates by Inherent Strain Method
Journal of Ship Production, 2002In order to achieve high productivity of assembly blocks of hull structure, it is important to predict welding deformations accurately and to apply these data to the production planning. For this purpose the transient thermal-elastic-plastic analysis by FEM (finite-element method) may be utilized.
