Unequal Chances: Family Background and Economic Success [PDF]

open access: yes
Is the United States "the land of equal opportunity" or is the playing field tilted in favor of those whose parents are wealthy, well educated, and white? If family background is important in getting ahead, why?

Range and Roots: Two Common Patterns for Specifying and Propagating Counting and Occurrence Constraints [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
We propose Range and Roots which are two common patterns useful for specifying a wide range of counting and occurrence constraints. We design specialised propagation algorithms for these two patterns. Counting and occurrence constraints specified using these patterns thus directly inherit a propagation algorithm.

Analysis of evolutionary origins of genomic loci harboring 59,732 candidate human-specific regulatory sequences identifies genetic divergence patterns during evolution of Great Apes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Our view of the universe of genomic regions harboring various types of candidate human-specific regulatory sequences (HSRS) has been markedly expanded in recent years. To infer the evolutionary origins of loci harboring HSRS, analyses of conservations patterns of 59,732 loci in Modern Humans, Chimpanzee, Bonobo, Gorilla, Orangutan, Gibbon, and Rhesus ...

Dynamics on unbounded domains; co-solutions and inheritance of stability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We consider the dynamics of semiflows of patterns on unbounded domains that are equivariant under a noncompact group action. We exploit the unbounded nature of the domain in a setting where there is a strong `global' norm and a weak `local' norm. Relative equilibria whose group orbits are closed manifolds for a compact group action need not be closed ...
