Visual attention deficits in schizophrenia can arise from inhibitory dysfunction in thalamus or cortex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Schizophrenia is associated with diverse cognitive deficits, including disorders of attention-related oculomotor behavior. At the structural level, schizophrenia is associated with abnormal inhibitory control in the circuit linking cortex and thalamus ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Inhibition and the control of information in language, memory, and other cognitive domains

open access: yesPsicológica
As individuals, we have to adjust our cognition and behavior to adapt to the environment. This adjustment involves, among other things, the functioning of a set of executive/control processes like flexibility to switch from one activity to another ...

DNAM-1 and the TIGIT/PVRIG/TACTILE Axis: Novel Immune Checkpoints for Natural Killer Cell-Based Cancer Immunotherapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes of the innate immune response characterized by their role in the destruction of tumor cells. Activation of NK cells depend on a fine balance between activating and inhibitory signals mediated by different ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Controlling cluster synchronization by adapting the topology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We suggest an adaptive control scheme for the control of zero-lag and cluster synchronization in delay-coupled networks. Based on the speed-gradient method, our scheme adapts the topology of a network such that the target state is realized.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A meta-analysis of the dose–response relationship between aerobic exercise and executive function in children

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
ObjectiveWhile existing meta-analyses of executive function focus on older adults and clinical pediatric populations, a substantial gap remains regarding typically developing children during this critical period.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Nutritional habits, inhibitory control, and emotional reactivity to healthy and unhealthy food cues in non-obese female students: insights from heart rate variability

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundResearch shows that the nutritional habits of university students do not follow the national recommendations. While most studies have focused on the increased risk of overweight/obesity, avoiding unhealthy food or maintaining a normal weight ...
