The stress state of the rock mass with spherical cavity [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2023
One of the main hypotheses accepted in the mechanics of deformable solids is the assumption of the homogeneity of materials. This means that all mechanical characteristics of the material (modulus of elasticity, Poisson’s ratio, yield strength ...

Mechanically switchable solid inhomogeneous phantom for performance tests in diffuse imaging and spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Optics, 2015
A mechanically switchable solid inhomogeneous phantom simulating localized absorption changes was developed and characterized. The homogeneous host phantom was made of epoxy resin with black toner and titanium dioxide particles added as absorbing and scattering components, respectively.

Numerical analysis of subsoil-reinforced concrete slab interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This article presents the numerical modeling of interaction between a reinforced concrete slab and subsoil using ABAQUS. Subsoil was simulated as both homogeneous half-space and inhomogeneous half-space.

Collisions of inhomogeneous pre-planetesimals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the framework of the coagulation scenario, kilometre-sized planetesimals form by subsequent collisions of pre-planetesimals of sizes from centimetre to hundreds of metres.

Connection between electrical conductivity and diffusion coefficient of a conductive porous material filled with electrolyte [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The paper focuses on the cross-property connection between the effective electrical conductivity and the overall mass transfer coefficient of a two phase material. The two properties are expressed in terms of the tortuosity parameter which generalized to

Template-assisted synthesis of CdS nanocrystal arrays in chemically inhomogeneous pores using a vapor–solid mechanism

open access: yesRSC Advances, 2015
Template of chemically inhomogeneous pores enables one to grow an ordered array of CdS multi-armed nanocrystals free of catalyst.

Preferential concentration of inertial sub-kolmogorov particles. The roles of mass loading of particles, Stokes and Reynolds numbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Turbulent flows laden with inertial particles present multiple open questions and are a subject of great interest in current research. Due to their higher density compared to the carrier fluid, inertial particles tend to form high concentration regions ...

Inhomogeneity of density and mechanical properties of A357 aluminum alloy backward extruded in semi-solid state

open access: yesTransactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China, 2011
The inhomogeneity of density and mechanical properties of A357 aluminum alloy in the semi-solid state were investigated. Numerical simulation and backward extrusion were adopted to study the preparation of cup shells. The results show that the relative density of the wall is the lowest in samples, and that of the base is the highest.

Interfaces with a single growth inhomogeneity and anchored boundaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The dynamics of a one dimensional growth model involving attachment and detachment of particles is studied in the presence of a localized growth inhomogeneity along with anchored boundary conditions.

Acoustic Probing of the Jamming Transition in an Unconsolidated Granular Medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Experiments with acoustic waves guided along the mechanically free surface of an unconsolidated granular packed structure provide information on the elasticity of granular media at very low pressures that are naturally controlled by the gravitational ...
