Inhomogeneous growth processes
Physical Review Letters, 1990It is proposed that inhomogeneities in the deposition rate can be a powerful tool for investigating properties of growing films. The macroscopic shape of the resulting surface deformation is discussed analytically for the growth equation proposed by Kardar, Parisi, and Zhang [Phys. Rev. Lett. 56, 889 (1986)].

Stratified Inhomogeneity and Regional Inhomogeneity
Respiration, 1972The diffusion in the lungs is sufficiently rapid to obliterate a measurable concentration gradient during a normal breathing cycle. The shape of the alveolar plateau in the single breath nitrogen washout curve is due mainly to the mechanical factors and some other possibilities.

After an extended survey of the Gibbs-Synge theory of bivectors (complex vectors) the paper uses that theory to find results on the polarization of inhomogeneous plane waves. The link between bivectors and plane waves is that the field (e.g. displacement u or electric field E) corresponding to a train of such waves is described in terms of two ...

Weakly Inhomogeneous Media Tomography
Ultrasonic Imaging, 2003Our objective is to develop an ultrasonic scanner for breast imaging. High resolution is obtained by using wide-band spherical waves transmitted and measured in the near field zone (i.e., close to the skin) all around the organ. The tomographic approach that we adopt allows us to use low central frequency waves (3–7 MHz) that are suitable for good ...

Elastic inhomogeneous inclusion and inhomogeneity in bimaterials
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1992A method is presented for obtaining the elastic field due to an inhomogeneous inclusion or an inhomogeneity of any shape in two joined semi-infinite isotropic solids (bimaterials) which are either perfectly bonded or in frictionless contact at the planar interface.

This paper discusses some new results related to ergodic and limit theorems and also to the repeated logarithm low for inhomogeneous Markov chains. Theorems are formulated and proved for conditions that were not treated in the literature; some estimates obtained previously by S. N. Bernshtein are employed.Lemma 1 is of greatest importance in the paper.
