Initial conditions for natural inflation
Physical Review D, 1993We investigate the issue of initial conditions for natural inflation in a homogeneous universe. Unlike many inflationary models, the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson nature of the inflaton field provides a natural measure for the phase space of initial conditions.

Abstract Laws of Nature tell us how things change. Yet behind them we believe there to lurk invariances that straitjacket reality. Nature can do whatever she pleases so long as these charmed quantities stay the same throughout the change.

Initial Conditions and Boundary Conditions
1994High-resolution limited-area models have been successfully used for both the simulation and prediction of regional and local mesoscale weather events (Anthes et al. 1989). This success can depend on accurately specifying the initial state of the atmosphere and its variation in time along the lateral boundaries of the model domain. Synoptic-scale global

SMOOTHING WITH AN UNKNOWN INITIAL CONDITION
Journal of Time Series Analysis, 2003Abstract.The smoothing filter is appropriately modified for state space models with an unknown initial condition. Modifications are confined to an initial stretch of the data. An application illustrates procedures.

Initial conditions for extended inflation
Physical Review D, 1989The wave function of the Universe is calculated for an inflationary cosmological model with a variable gravitational ''constant.'' The resulting probability distribution for the initial states of the Universe is peaked at the highest maximum of the effective potential, /ital V/=/ital V//sub max/, with the initial value of the Planck mass /ital M//sub ...

Mechanisms of conditioned meal initiation
Physiology & Behavior, 1989Three experiments investigate behavioral and biological mechanisms of meal initiation controlled by learning. Animals were classically conditioned to initiate a meal in response to a conditioned stimulus paired with food. We demonstrate that: a) aversion to the signalled food markedly reduces consumption but has no effect on eating-related behaviors ...

Initial conditions of a stringy universe
Physical Review D, 1988The ground-state functional corresponding to a closed bosonic string is derived by using the path-integral approach for the simple compact topology of a finite cylinder. This functional integral satisfies the ''no boundary'' Hartle-Hawking prescription and, therefore, we consider it as a candidate to describe the quantum state of the very early ...

Conditional Trust Adjustment and Initialization
2011 IEEE Third Int'l Conference on Privacy, Security, Risk and Trust and 2011 IEEE Third Int'l Conference on Social Computing, 2011This paper proposes a rule-based reasoner system that adjusts the ratings based on the underlying siltation, thus, imposes situation awareness to the existing trust models. Furthermore, it helps the trust model to bootstrap by providing an estimation of trust value based on similar situations or similar trustees previously observed.

Inhomogeneous initial conditions for inflation
Physical Review D, 1991We address the question whether the inflationary paradigm frees cosmology from the worry about initial conditions. That is, we study the influence of initial inhomogeneities on the inflationary epoch. We derive a simple set of approximate equations and use it to illustrate some features of deviations from homogeneity. However, the approximation methods
