Spatial chaos as a governing factor for imperfection sensitivity in shell buckling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Shell buckling is known for its extreme sensitivity to initial imperfections. It is generally understood that this sensitivity is caused by subcritical (unstable) buckling, whereby initial geometric imperfections rapidly erode the idealised buckling load

Detailed analysis of the effects of initial geometric imperfections on longitudinally stiffened plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The graduate thesis addresses slender longitudinally stiffened steel plates subjected to pure shear and uniform compression respectively. After buckling such plates develop significant post-critical resistance, which is not the case for column buckling ...

Neuromorphic Electronics for Intelligence Everywhere: Emerging Devices, Flexible Platforms, and Scalable System Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The perspective presents an integrated view of neuromorphic technologies, from device physics to real‐time applicability, while highlighting the necessity of full‐stack co‐optimization. By outlining practical hardware‐level strategies to exploit device behavior and mitigate non‐idealities, it shows pathways for building efficient, scalable, and ...

Nonlinear Dynamics of FGM Conical Panel With Initial Imperfection in Thermal Environment

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, the nonlinear dynamics of a simply supported functionally graded materials (FGM) conical panel with different forms of initial imperfections is investigated. The conical panel is subjected to the simple harmonic excitation along the radial

Rethinking Charge Transport and Recombination in Donor‐Diluted Organic Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Organic solar cells with 1–45% PM6 content in Y12 were studied to link structure and charge dynamics to performance. The conductivity follows a 3D percolation model without a sharp threshold. Donor dilution preserves the photogeneration yield, but limits the fill factor due to transport resistance losses.

Buckling behavior of closed-ribs orthotropic steel decks in long-span suspension bridges

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
Recently, routine inspections of existing orthotropic steel decks (OSDs) have revealed numerous instances of local buckling deformations in the U-ribs, which could significantly affect the structural safety of the bridges.
