Abstract The influence of initial geometric imperfections on the response of simply supported rectangular plates subjected to periodic in-plane forces is theoretically analyzed in this work. The large deflection plate theory used in the analysis is derived in terms of the stress function F and lateral displacement W .

Nonlinear strain components of general shells with initial geometric imperfections
Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1992On the basis of nonlinear strain component formulations of three-dimensional continuum, this paper has derived the nonlinear strain component formulations of shells with initial geometric imperfections. The derivation is not confined to a special shell, therefore they possess general properties.

Effects of Initial Geometric Imperfections on Parametric Instability of Rectangular Plates
Volume 6B: 18th Biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2001Abstract The authors present a rational analysis of the effect of initial geometric imperfections on the dynamic behaviour of rectangular plates activated by a parametric excitation. This subject has been extensively investigated theoretically in the past, but no experimental data seems to be complete enough to validate the theory.

Free vibrations of a certain geometrically nonlinear system with initial imperfection
AIAA Journal, 1990The equations of motion of a beam are assumed within the framework of the moderately large bending theory. The effects of an initial imperfection and amplitude on the nonlinear vibration frequency and value of axial internal force in a beam are presented.

Buckling of thin-walled columns accounting for initial geometrical imperfections
International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2017The paper is devoted to the effect of some geometrical imperfections on the critical buckling load of axially compressed thin-walled I-columns. The analytical formulas for the critical torsional and flexural buckling loads accounting for the initial curvature of the column axis or the twist angle respectively are derived.

Effects of initial geometric imperfections on dynamic behavior of rectangular plates
Nonlinear Dynamics, 1992The present work deals with the influence of initial geometric imperfections on the dynamic behavior of simply supported rectangular plates subjected to the action of periodic in-plane forces. The nonlinear large-deflection plate theory used in this analysis corresponds to the dynamic analog of von Karman's theory.

Structural performance of a gossamer isogrid column with initial geometric imperfections
19th AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Conference, 2001This paper reports on the experimental study and analysis of a novel gossamer structural component. The component is a 3 m long thin-walled isogrid column prototype which may be elastically stowed and deployed. The static and dynamic mechanical response of the deployed prototype is examined and compared to an idealized model.

This article deals with the geometrically nonlinear transient response of functionally graded (FG) shell panels in thermal environments having initial geometric imperfection. The theoretical formulation considers Sanders’ approximation for doubly curved shells and von Karman type nonlinear stresses are incorporated into the first order shear ...

Geometrically nonlinear analysis of initially imperfect shallow spherical shells under uniformly distributed axisymmetrical load is investigated in this computational study. The thickness of the shell is considered to be uniform and the material is assumed to be isotropic.

Influence of initial geometric imperfections on vibrations of thin circular cylindrical shells
Computers & Structures, 1983Abstract The influence of initial geometric imperfections (out-of-roundness) on vibrations of a right circular cylindrical shell is investigated on the basis on non-linear large deformation shell theory. Both free and forced motions (due to base excitation caused by seismic effects) are treated.
