Effect of Initial Imperfections on the Flexural Eigenvibrations of Cylindrical Shells
Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2001The effect of small initial deviations from the ideal circular shape of a shell on the frequencies and modes of flexural eigenvibrations is studied with the use of the linear theory of thin shallow shells. It is assumed that the initial deviations are responsible for interaction between flexural and radial vibrations of the shell.

Lateral Stability of Beams with Initial Imperfections
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1983The design of large flat-roof systems necessitates a means of analyzing the required strength of bracing members. If the braced beam is initially perfectly straight, it will remain straight until it buckles; the prebuckling stresses in the braces are theoretically zero. If the braced beam has initial imperfections, they will grow under load and so will

The Effect of Initial Imperfections on Shell Stability
2002The development of “DISDECO”, the Delft Interactive Shell DEsign COde is described. The purpose of this project is to make the accumulated theoretical, numerical and practical knowledge of the last 20 years readily accessible to users interested in the analysis of buckling of sensitive structures.

Effect of Initial Imperfections on Dynamic Buckling of Shells
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1989A thin aluminum cylindrical shell was subjected to an impulsive halfcosine external load applied with explosives. The observed response consisted of an initial dynamic pulse buckling followed by large inward displacements of the loaded side of the shell, Accurate calculation of this response was obtained with a finite element algorithm using a ...

Reliability of framed structures with initial imperfections
Computers & Structures, 1987Abstract A method is proposed for determining the reliability of inelastic framed structures with initial imperfections. Structures with deterministic initial imperfections and material properties are analyzed by a previously proposed nonlinear structural analysis method to find the limit state functions in load space.

Computation of Critical Initial Imperfection of Truss Structures
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1990A method for computing the critical (worst) initial imperfection of elastic truss structures is presented, on the basis of a previous work of the writers. This method can deal with initial imperfections of various properties, including loading pattern vectors, nodal initial position vectors, initial member length, and the product of Young's modulus and

Robustness of Imperfect Initialization in Quantum Parameter Estimation
2020 39th Chinese Control Conference (CCC), 2020One of the most concerned problems in quantum metrology is exploiting quantum resources to increase the precision of quantum parameter estimation. One natural and standard way of improving the precision of estimation is letting the initial probe state being optimal.

Sensitivity of semi-rigid frames to initial imperfections
Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1991Abstract The effects of imperfections are presented for the limit state concept design philosophy of structural steel buildings with flexible beam-column connections. The sensitivity of calibrating frames with four types of connections was tested on a second-order elastic in-plane model with semirigid connections expressed as a second-order ...

Initial Imperfection Models for Segments of Line Pipe
Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, 2005Initial imperfections have long been acknowledged as having an effect on the behavior of shell structures, affecting both the global and local behavior. Yet, despite their significance, initial imperfections are rarely included in analytical models for pipelines. This is usually because of the complicated nature of initial imperfections, the difficulty

Buckling of Initially Imperfect Cylindrical Shells Subject to Torsion
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1957Abstract An analytical solution based upon large-deflection shell theory is presented for the problem of the elastic instability of a thin cylindrical shell subject to torsion. The fundamental equations used are those presented by Donnell in 1934, and these equations together with the condition of stationary potential energy are employed
