Effects of Initial Imperfections of Stiffeners due to Welding

open access: yesJournal of the Society of Naval Architects of Japan, 1991
Initial imperfections such as residual stress and deflection are inevitable for steel structures fabricated by welding. The estimation of the magnitude of these imperfections and their effect on the strength of structures are indispensable to rational design.Firstly, the magnitudes of initial imperfections both in panels and in stiffeners are estimated

Dipole‐Engineered Conductive Additives for Ultrastable Interphase Evolution in High‐Areal‐Capacity Silicon Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In the work reported herein, dipole‐engineered sulfonated carbon nanofibers enable conductive additives to actively regulate interphase formation in silicon anodes. Polar sulfonyl groups guide electrolyte decomposition to form a compact LiF‐rich interphase while promoting robust integration with silicon.

Residual stresses and initial imperfections in non-linear analysis

open access: yes, 2013
When non-linear finite element analysis (FEA) of cold-formed thin-walled steel sections subject to compression is carried out, an initial perturbation must be introduced in the model in order to trigger the failure due to instability.

Study on ultimate strength of box girder considering intact initialimperfections under cyclic bending moments

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu
ObjectivesTo fully consider intact initial imperfections, including welding initial deformation and residual stress, it is necessary to conduct a study on the plastic deformation distribution and ultimate strength of a box girder under different cyclic ...

Engineering Pendant Group Chemistry to Control Hydrophilicity and Oxidative Degradation of Thioketal‐Based Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thioketal (TK) polymers are promising biomaterials due to their selective biodegradation by reactive oxygen species (ROS), but they respond slowly to physiologic doses of ROS. Here, the TK bond's pendant groups are modified to enhance the degradation of TK‐based implants both in vitro and in vivo.

Template‐Confined Synthesis of Shape‐Engineered Single‐Crystal Gold Microplates in Lithographically‐Defined Polymeric Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐crystal gold microplates are high‐performance nanomaterials with an impressive wafer‐based application space. Progress has, however, been tempered by an inability to exert synthetic control over microplate size, shape, and positioning. In this work, control over these parameters is demonstrated using a seed‐mediated synthesis that both confines ...

Inelastic Moment Resistances of Welded Steel Beams with Initial Shape Imperfections

open access: yesCivil and Environmental Engineering
Numerical procedures based on geometric and material nonlinearities are proposed in the present study to evaluate the inelastic responses of welded steel beams with the initial shape imperfections of welds, braces and out-of-straightness.

Effect of geometric imperfections on the ultimate moment capacity of cold-formed sigma-shape se

open access: yesHBRC Journal, 2017
In recent years, cold formed steel sections are used more and more as primary framing components and as a secondary structural system. They are used as purlins and side rails or floor joist, and after that in the building envelops.
