The Initial Mass Function

1988
As we have already heard, estimates of the fraction of a star-forming cloud that is converted into stars and of the overall star formation rate in galaxies depend crucially on the assumed stellar initial mass function, which must be known before any quantitative conclusions can be drawn about galactic evolution.

Origins of the Stellar Initial Mass Function

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
This paper gives a brief sketch of the current state of affairs in research into the origins of the stellar initial mass function. The likely origin of the IMF in the distribution of mass amongst dense cores in star forming regions is discussed, touching upon evidence from observations and predictions from theory.

Initial mass functions of Wolf-Rayet stars

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1986
On the basis of evolutionary tracks on the HR diagram the lower limit of initial mass functions for Wolf-Rayet stars are estimated. The lower limit to the initial masses of the Wolf-Rayet stars seems to be 20M⊙ and in this respect there is no significant difference between the WN and WC stars.
