Crack Initiation in Viscoelastic Materials [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2018
In viscoelastic materials, individually short-lived bonds collectively result in a mechanical resistance which is long-lived but finite, as ultimately cracks appear. Here we provide a microscopic mechanism by which cracks emerge from the nonlinear local bond dynamics.

Dark cloud chemistry in initially H-rich regions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The chemistry in dark regions of dense cores is explored as a function of the initial abundance ratio of H to H 2, on the assumption that some cores form on a timescale and are younger than the time required for the H :H 2 ratio to attain its equilibrium

Rate dependent shear bands in a shear transformation zone model of amorphous solids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We use Shear Transformation Zone (STZ) theory to develop a deformation map for amorphous solids as a function of the imposed shear rate and initial material preparation.

On Love-type waves in a finitely deformed magnetoelastic layered half-space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, the propagation of Love-type waves in a homogeneously and finitely deformed layered half-space of an incompressible non-conducting magnetoelastic material in the presence of an initial uniform magnetic field is analyzed.

Effect of moisture on mechanical behavior of granular material in initial laboratory and mechanical tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this article authors present results of initial laboratory tests and further numerical analyses using finite element method (FEM) and back - calculation method.

An Experimental Investigation of Hot Machining with Induction to Improve Ti-5553 Machinability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The manufacturing of aeronautic parts with high mechanical properties requires the use of high performance materials. That’s why; new materials are used for landing gears such as the titanium alloy Ti-5553.

Sufficient Conditions for Apparent Horizons in Spherically Symmetric Initial Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We establish sufficient conditions for the appearance of apparent horizons in spherically symmetric initial data when spacetime is foliated extrinsically.

An Initial Assessment of Infiltration Material Selection for Selective Laser Sintered Preforms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
High-temperature infiltration is an important process that is used to add strength to skeletal microstructures. In this study, particulate metal matrix composites (MMCs) are fabricated.

Investigation for the puzzling abundance pattern of the neutron-capture elements in the ultra metal-poor star: CS 30322-023 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The s-enhanced and very metal-poor star CS 30322-023 shows a puzzling abundance pattern of the neutron-capture elements, i.e. several neutron-capture elements such as Ba, Pb etc.
