Initial Orbit Determination Using Simplex Fusion
2020 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2020A new Initial Orbit Determination (IOD) method for angles-only observations is presented. This method is based on an adaptive Nelder-Mead simplex optimization technique for fusion of multiple observations from one or more acquisition satellites. The resulting solution characterizes the target orbit as a standard state vector.

Initial Orbit Determination Utilizing Solution Group Optimization
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2020This paper investigates the use of space-based tracking data to determine the initial orbit of low-earth orbit (LEO) target satellites. A series of tracking data without distance information of a LEO target satellite can be provided by a space-based imaging observer and a target detection process. First, Gauss’ method is applied to a series of a target

Statistical initial orbit determination
Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1992For the ballistic missile initial orbit determination problem in particular, the concept of 'launch folders' is extended. This allows to decouple the observational data from the initial orbit determination problem per se. The observational data is only used to select among the possible orbital element sets in the group of folders.

Initial orbit determination using multiple observations
Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy, 2010A novel approach for initial orbit determination based on multiple angles-only observations is presented. The proposed technique is iterative and uses Lagrangian coefficients, f and g. The proposed method does not show singularity for the coplanar cases.

Bearings-Only Initial Relative Orbit Determination
Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 2015A method for performing bearings-only initial relative orbit determination of a nearby space object in the absence of any information regarding the space object’s geometry and relative orbit is presented. To resolve the range ambiguity characteristic of a single optical sensor system, a second optical sensor is included at a known baseline distance on ...

Initial orbit determination using camera array
2017 International Conference on Optical Instruments and Technology: Optical Systems and Modern Optoelectronic Instruments, 2018Optical measuring angle data can be used in initial orbit determination. However, optical system has its magnitude limit, the initial orbits can not be determined when targets’ magnitudes are above the limited magnitude or the relative size of the target can not meet the resolution requirements. In order to expand the observable range of optical system

A new method of initial orbit determination
Celestial Mechanics, 1986We present a new method of initial orbit determination for angles-only data. The technique is applicable with only three data sets but the formalism can incorporate arbitrarily large amounts of data. The algorithm rests on the fact that the orbital plane is usually very well determined, as a consequence of the central nature of the gravitational force,

Probabilistic Initial Orbit Determination Using Gaussian Mixture Models
Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 2013The most complete description of the state of a system at any time is given by knowledge of the probability density function, which describes the locus of possible states conditioned on any available measurement information. When employing optical data, the concept of the admissible region provides a physics-based region of the range/range-rate space ...
