Initial Orbit Determination Based on Intelligent Optimization Algorithm

Chinese Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2023
Classical methods for initial orbit determination (IOD) include Laplace method, Gauss method and their variations. In addition to this, based on the characteristic of optical observation data nowadays, experts propose some other IOD methods, like Double ...

Initial orbit determination using multiple observations

Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy, 2010
A novel approach for initial orbit determination based on multiple angles-only observations is presented. The proposed technique is iterative and uses Lagrangian coefficients, f and g. The proposed method does not show singularity for the coplanar cases.

Dealing with Uncertainties in Initial Orbit Determination

open access: yes, 2016
A method to deal with uncertainties in initial orbit determination (IOD) is presented. This is based on the use of Taylor differential algebra (DA) to nonlinearly map the observation uncertainties from the observation space to the state space. When a minimum set of observations is available, DA is used to expand the solution of the IOD problem in ...

Probabilistic Initial Orbit Determination and Object Tracking in Cislunar Space Using Passive Radio Frequency Sensors

AMOS 2023 Technical Papers, 2023
In this paper we build on the work we presented at the 2022 AMOS Conference [1]. In that work, we focused on the processing of optical observations from spacecraft orbiting in Cislunar space.

Statistical initial orbit determination

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1992
For the ballistic missile initial orbit determination problem in particular, the concept of 'launch folders' is extended. This allows to decouple the observational data from the initial orbit determination problem per se. The observational data is only used to select among the possible orbital element sets in the group of folders.

Initial Orbit Determination Utilizing Solution Group Optimization

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2020
This paper investigates the use of space-based tracking data to determine the initial orbit of low-earth orbit (LEO) target satellites. A series of tracking data without distance information of a LEO target satellite can be provided by a space-based imaging observer and a target detection process. First, Gauss’ method is applied to a series of a target
