Sciatic nerve palsy associated with intramuscular quinine injections in children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The purpose of this paper is to show that, in children, gluteal injection of quinine dihydrochloride (QDH) may result in damage to the sciatic nerve. Forty-six children were seen with foot drop following intramuscular injections in the same limb.

Lipid Nanoparticle Co‐Delivery of mRNA and a Small Molecule Drug for Oral Cancer Chemoimmunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Co‐encapsulation of p53 mRNA and the small molecule ciclopirox within a lipid nanoparticle yields an all‐in‐one chemoimmunotherapy for oral squamous cell carcinoma. The platform engages caspase‐driven apoptosis in cancer cells while repolarizing tumor‐associated macrophages, achieving tumor reduction in both p53‐susceptible and p53‐resistant models and

Maskless Fabrication of PLA‐Based Neural Arrays for CNS Recording and Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Biodegradable neural interfaces enable bidirectional communication with the CNS. Through electrochemical characterization, ageing tests with impedance monitoring, and in vivo validation, we assess the performance of PLA‐based epicortical and spinal implants.

Subcutaneous palivizumab (Synagis®) administration in an infant with congenital type 2B von Willebrand disease

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine, 2015
Intramuscular injections are contra-indicated in infants with either acquired or congenital bleeding disorders. In such patients, it is unlicensed practice to administer vaccines by subcutaneous route.

A narrative review of the success of intramuscular gluteal injections and its impact in psychiatry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
There are 12 billion injections given worldwide every year. For many injections, the intramuscular route is favoured over the subcutaneous route due to the increased vascularity of muscle tissue and the corresponding increase in the bioavailability of ...

Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Mediated Intercellular Communication: Mapping the Interactome for Skeletal Muscle Homeostasis and Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liu et al. define a systems‐level interactome of fibroadipogenic progenitor (FAP)‐mediated signaling in skeletal muscle by integrating single‐cell transcriptomics with FAP depletion‐based perturbation analysis. Functional interrogation using a conditioned media bioassay links predicted signaling to multicellular outcomes, establishing a framework to ...

A Toolkit for Targeted Neuromodulation of Striatal Direct Pathway Neurons Rescues Parkinsonian Motor Deficits in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An adeno‐associated virus (AAV) toolkit enables selective anatomical and functional targeting of striatal D1‐MSNs through retrograde transduction. Enhanced capsids and engineered enhancers drive robust transgene expression across murine and primate models.
