Design and testing of a porous injector head for transpiration cooled combustion chambers

48th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting Including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2010
The present publication describes the design and testing of a porous injector head which was specifically designed towards an application in a transpiration cooled combustion chamber as a part of the German Research Network ”Propulsion 2010”. In order to determine comparable performance data, this injector head was tested with a conventional water ...

Injector Head Transpiration Cooling Coupled with Combustion in H2/O2 Subscale Thrust Chamber

Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2013
Transpiration cooling coupled with combustion was investigated in an H2/O2 liquid rocket thrust chamber with a transpiration-cooled injector plate. A numerical model was developed using the real gas equation of state. The H2 and O2 combustion process was modeled by the eddy dissipation concept model, which includes the detailed chemical reaction ...

Optimization of Injector Location on the Cylinder Head in a Direct Injection Spark Ignition Engine

2020
The injector location and orientation on the cylinder head of a direct injection spark ignition engine greatly influence the performance, combustion, and emission characteristics. As the cylinder head is the most crowded area, an in-cylinder investigation needs to be performed for the optimization of the spark plug and injector location. In this study,

Measurements and modelling of wall heat fluxes in rocket combustion chamber with porous injector head

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2016
A rocket combustion chamber with a porous injector head, which is a new concept for injecting propellants, is tested. The hot-fire tests are carried out using cryogenic oxygen and hydrogen at the mass ratio of oxidizer to fuel of 6 and at pressure of 80 bar.

“A Costly Turn On”: Patterns of use and perceived consequences of mephedrone based head shop products amongst Irish injectors

International Journal of Drug Policy, 2012
Mephedrone injecting has recently been reported in Romania, Slovenia, Guernsey and Ireland. The research reported here aimed to describe the experiences of a group of Irish injecting drug users, who were injecting mephedrone based headshop products prior to the introduction of legislative controls in Ireland, with particular focus on pre- and post ...

Experimental Tests Results of Traspiration Cooling Subscale Injector Head in the frame of LYRA Program

2019
In the frame of the LYRA Program, funded by the Italian Space Agency, the LM-10-MIRA engine has been successfully tested. The engine has a vacuum thrust of 10-tons and has been developed by a joint Avio-KBKhA propulsion team in the frame of a dedicated ASI-Roscosmos inter-agencies agreement. After the experimental test campaign, further improvement for

Resolving Rigless ESP Deployment Challenges Using a Modified Coiled Tubing Injector Head

SPE Middle East Artificial Lift Conference and Exhibition
Abstract Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) are conventionally rig-deployed via production tubing, with clamped-on power cable. The long wait and installation times incur high operating expenses, with large surface and carbon footprints. Riglessly-deployed, permanent ESP systems address the above limitations, but challenges include safe ...

Repetitive laser ignition by optical breakdown of a LOX/H2 rocket combustion chamber with multi-injector head configuration

CEAS Space Journal, 2017
This paper reports on the repetitive laser ignition by optical breakdown within an experimental rocket combustion chamber. Ignition was performed by focusing a laser pulse generated by a miniaturized diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser system. The system, which delivers 33.2 mJ in 2.3 ns, was mounted directly to the combustion chamber.

Development of a Research-Oriented Cylinder Head with Modular Injector Mounting and Access for Multiple In-Cylinder Diagnostics

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2017
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Alternative fuel injection systems and advanced in-cylinder diagnostics are two important tools for engine development; however, the rapid and simultaneous achievement of these goals is often limited by the space available in the cylinder head.

Investigation of Two Dimensional Thermal Loads in the Region Near the Injector Head of a High Pressure Subscale Combustion Chamber

47th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including The New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2009
Optimization of heat transfer management is a key issue in designing a rocket combustion chamber. This paper presents the new test specimen and the measurement technique that has been developed und successfully used by the Institute of Space Propulsion for high resolution investigations of the influence of injector-wall interactions on heat transfer in
