Predicting Deposition Rate and Closing the Loop on Aerosol Jet Printing with In‐Line Light Scattering Measurements

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 25, Issue 12, June 2023., 2023
Closed‐loop control is demonstrated for aerosol jet printing by integrating light scattering measurements of the aerosol stream with custom printer software. This system allows quantitative approaches to ink development and fundamental process studies, and supports more consistent and direct control of the deposition rate to support more reliable ...

Pharmacokinetic‐pharmacodynamic model of urinary δ‐aminolevulinic acid reduction after givosiran treatment in patients with acute hepatic porphyria

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, Volume 12, Issue 6, Page 842-852, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Givosiran, an RNA interference‐based therapeutic, is a recent addition to the limited treatment armamentarium for acute hepatic porphyria (AHP). As a small interfering RNA that is selectively taken up in the liver, both the mechanism and targeted delivery create a complex relationship between givosiran pharmacokinetics (PK) and the ...

A Nucleophilic Activity‐Based Probe Enables Profiling of PLP‐Dependent Enzymes

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 24, Issue 7, April 3, 2023., 2023
The first activity‐based probe for PLP‐dependent enzymes is reported. The trifunctional probe contains an N‐hydroxyalanine warhead, a linear diazirine, and an alkyne to enable enrichment. The essential protein LysA was identified as the primary target of the probe.

3D Nanolithography by Means of Lipid Ink Spreading Inhibition

open access: yesSmall, Volume 19, Issue 10, March 8, 2023., 2023
Starting from a fluid phase phospholipid ink, 3D patterning is achieved using dip‐pen nanolithography. Pre‐coated Serum Albumin on the surfaces yield unprecedented phospholipid ink spreading inhibition, which enables thickness coordinate control capacity through the writing parameters, namely writing speed and relative humidity. The final metallization

Prussian Blue: Chemistry, Commerce, and Colour in Eighteenth‐Century Paris

open access: yesArt History, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 154-186, February 2023., 2023
This essay reconsiders the story of a pigment. Prussian blue, discovered at the beginning of the eighteenth century, is often described as a revolutionary colour that instantly transformed painters’ palettes and practices. Grounded in a ‘thick description’ of the pigment's history in Paris, this article challenges the legendary account of Prussian blue

Hybrid Mucin‐Vaterite Microspheres for Delivery of Proteolytic Enzyme Chymotrypsin

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, Volume 22, Issue 7, July 2022., 2022
This study proposes hybrid microspheres made of mucin and mesoporous crystals of vaterite as the carriers for local delivery of proteases. Proteolytic activity is preserved in both pure carbonate and hybrid microspheres, being pH dependent. The modification of carbonate microspheres with mucin i) enhances retention of chymotrypsin on hybrid ...

Rapid Capture of Cancer Extracellular Vesicles by Lipid Patch Microarrays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 33, Issue 35, September 2, 2021., 2021
Extracellular vesicles have great prospects as diagnostic and therapeutic tools. However, their isolation still poses challenges. A novel supported lipid‐membrane‐based platform is introduced for rapid capture, with high specificity and sensitivity, only a small needed analyte volume, and without additional purification steps.

‘Dignity and respect’: An example of service user leadership and co‐production in mental health research

open access: yesHealth Expectations, Volume 24, Issue S1, Page 10-19, May 2021., 2021
Abstract This paper explores the methodological aspects of a user‐led study investigating mental health service user experiences of targeted violence and abuse (often called 'hate crime'). 'Keeping Control' was a 16‐month qualitative study, undertaken in the context of adult safeguarding reforms in England.

Nanoscale Patterning of Carbon Nanotubes: Techniques, Applications, and Future

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 8, Issue 1, January 6, 2021., 2021
Carbon nanotube (CNT) devices are achieving maturity and directly competing with devices using conventional materials. However, a major challenge to fully commercialize is the scalable placement of CNTs into nanoscale patterns/architectures into macroscale devices.

Policy Responses to Domestic Violence, the Criminalisation Thesis and ‘Learning from History’

open access: yesThe Howard Journal of Crime and Justice, Volume 59, Issue 3, Page 305-316, September 2020., 2020
Abstract The ‘criminalisation thesis’ has proved a contentious but defining feature of modern social and legal responses to domestic violence since the 1970s. However, criminalisation has not always been the focus of legal attempts to tackle violence or offer recourse to victims.
