The First Galaxies: Chemical Enrichment, Mixing, and Star Formation

open access: yes, 2010
Using three-dimensional cosmological simulations, we study the assembly process of one of the first galaxies, with a total mass of 10^8 M_sun, collapsing at z = 10.

Catalysts for change: Museum gardens in a planetary emergency

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Natural history museums are often seen as places with indoor galleries full of dry‐dusty specimens, usually of animals. But if they have gardens associated with them, museums can use living plants to create narratives that link outside spaces to inside galleries, bringing to life the challenges facing biodiversity.

Evaluation of adaptation of ceramic inlays using optical coherence tomography and replica technique

open access: yesBrazilian Oral Research, 2018
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has generally been used as a nondestructive technique to evaluate integrities of composite restorations. We investigated marginal and internal adaptations of ceramic inlay restorations with OCT and compared them to ...

Genomic structure and ex situ conservation of the North American grapevine Vitis labrusca

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
The North American wild grapevine species Vitis labrusca is an important source of disease resistance and climate resilience traits for breeding new grapevine cultivars. To ensure its continued use in breeding, V. labrusca must be accurately identified and genetically diverse material must be conserved.

Impact of Various Cavity-Preparation Designs on Fracture Resistance and Failure Mode of CAD/CAM Fabricated Ceramic Inlays and Onlays

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In recent years, CAD/CAM technology has allowed indirect ceramic restorations to become a part of everyday chairside clinical practice. Therefore, the impact of different cavity-preparation designs on the fracture resistance of CAD/CAM fabricated ...

Proximal direct composite restorations and chairside CAD/CAM inlays: Marginal adaptation of a two-step self-etch adhesive with and without selective enamel conditioning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The aim of this study was to evaluate the marginal adaptation of CEREC ceramic inlays, CEREC composite inlays and direct composite restorations in unbeveled proximal slot cavities under artificial aging conditions.

Dual‐Stage Heat Treatment for Enhanced Hydrogen Storage Properties of Mg−Ni−Y Alloys

open access: yesRare Metals, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mg−Ni−Y alloy is considered to be one of the most promising hydrogen storage materials, but its high dehydrogenation energy barrier hinders its practical application. A dual‐stage heat treatment (490°C × 4 h + 550°C × 4 h) is applied to optimize the microstructure and hydrogen storage performance of a vacuum‐melted Mg94Ni3Y3 alloy.

Evaluation of stress distribution of a new restorative material and composite resin: a finite-element analysis study

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2017
Glass carbomer cement is a new dental material developed from the traditional glass ionomer cements. It has better mechanical and chemical features when compared to the conventional glass ionomer cements.
