Electron acoustic solitary structures and shocks in dense inner magnetosphere finite temperature plasma

, 2020
In this paper, a theoretical investigation of nonlinear electron acoustic waves in plasmas containing degenerate electrons at finite temperature, non-degenerate cold electrons and stationary ions has been carried out.

Inner magnetosphere currents and their role in the magnetosphere dynamics

Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, Part C: Solar, Terrestrial & Planetary Science, 2000
Abstract The role of inner magnetosphere currents in the magnetopause dynamics is analyzed. The change of magnetopause position under the influence of inner magnetosphere magnetic field sources is analyzed. It is shown that the main source of such change may be an effective eastward ring current flowing near the inner edge of the plasma sheet.

Saturn's Magnetosphere, Rings, and Inner Satellites

Science, 1980
Our 31 August to 5 September 1979 observations together with those of the other Pioneer 11 investigators provide the first credible discovery of the magnetosphere of Saturn and many detailed characteristics thereof. In physical dimensions and energetic charged particle population, Saturn's magnetosphere is intermediate between those of ...

EMIC Wave Properties Associated With and Without Injections in The Inner Magnetosphere

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2019
To understand the generation and propagation processes of electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves under different geomagnetic conditions in the inner magnetosphere, we performed a statistical study of EMIC wave properties observed by the Van Allen ...

Effect of magnetospheric convection on thermal plasma in the inner magnetosphere

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1994
The effects of E × B convection on the distribution of plasma parameters in the inner magnetosphere have been examined. Analytical solutions describing density distributions along convective trajectories in the equatorial plane have been found. These solutions suggest the following dependence of plasma concentration n on the magnetic field B along ...

Collective phenomena in the inner magnetosphere

Physics of Plasmas, 1999
The Earth’s magnetosphere exhibits substantial complexity in many of its physical properties. Particle populations wax and wane and magnetic fields fluctuate on virtually all observed time scales, from less than 1 minute to many days. Much of the variability of the magnetosphere and its interaction with the ionosphere can be ascribed to the phenomena ...

EMIC Wave‐Driven Bounce Resonance Scattering of Energetic Electrons in the Inner Magnetosphere

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2019
While electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves have been long studied as a scattering mechanism for ultrarelativistic (megaelectron volt) electrons via cyclotron‐resonant interactions, these waves are also of the right frequency to resonate with the ...

The Inner Magnetosphere: A Review

Surveys in Geophysics, 1995
This paper addresses research achievements during roughly the period 1991–1993 pertaining to the inner magnetosphere including the radiation belts, plasmasphere, and ring current region. It also addresses issues concerning the magnetic fields, electrical currents, and particle precipitation properties that relate to this region of the solar-terrestrial

The Inner Magnetosphere Imager mission

Space Programs and Technologies Conference and Exhibit, 1993
Scientists have assembled an incomplete picture of the global composition and dynamics of the Earth’s magnetosphere in spite of 30 years of in situ measurements. Imaging the magnetosphere from space will enable scientists to better understand the global shape of the inner magnetosphere, its components, and processes.
