The interplay between thermodynamics and kinetics in the solid-state synthesis of layered oxides. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In the synthesis of inorganic materials, reactions often yield non-equilibrium kinetic byproducts instead of the thermodynamic equilibrium phase. Understanding the competition between thermodynamics and kinetics is a fundamental step towards the rational

MnO2 efficiently removes indigo carmine dyes from polluted water

open access: yesHeliyon, 2018
MnO2 is identified as a highly efficient sonocatalyst and sonophotocatalyst for the complete removal of even very small concentration of Indigo carmine (IC) dye pollutant from water. The effect of various reaction parameters, viz. dosage of the catalyst,

The chemical state of complex uranium oxides

open access: yes, 2013
We report here the first direct observation of U(V) in uranium binary oxides and analyze the gradual conversion of the U oxidation state in the mixed uranium systems.

Reducing ZnO nanoparticles toxicity through silica coating

open access: yesHeliyon, 2016
ZnO NPs have good antimicrobial activity that can be utilized as agents to prevent harmful microorganism growth in food. However, the use of ZnO NPs as food additive is limited by the perceived high toxicity of ZnO NPs in many earlier toxicity studies ...

Outpacing conventional nicotinamide hydrogenation catalysis by a strongly communicating heterodinuclear photocatalyst

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Although multinuclear, supramolecular photocatalysts show promise in their ability to separate the processes required for lightdriven energy production into light absorption, charge separation and fuel production by individual parts of the molecule ...

Synthesis and surface characterization of new triplex polymer of Ag(I) and mixture nucleosides: cytidine and 8-bromoguanosine

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
In this work one-dimensional (1D) triplex polymer of silver (I): mixture nucleosides of cytidine and 8-bromoguanosine was synthesised. The polymer showed high stability due to the presence Ag(I) ions in the structure of the polymer in addition to the ...

A Map of the Inorganic Ternary Metal Nitrides

open access: yes, 2018
Exploratory synthesis in novel chemical spaces is the essence of solid-state chemistry. However, uncharted chemical spaces can be difficult to navigate, especially when materials synthesis is challenging.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
