A simulation study of the influence of magnetizing inrush current and sympathetic inrush current of converter transformers

2016 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC), 2016
Magnetizing inrush current will occur when the transformer is energized without load, which will cause that the already energized neighboring transformers generate sympathetic inrush current. The currents have influence on the operation of HVDC system if they occur in the converter transformers due to their characteristics.

Magnetization current inrush in transformers

Electrical Engineering, 1951
ANALYTICAL solutions to nonlinear transients such as the phenomena of inrush currents in transformers are notoriously difficult to obtain unless a simple, convenient relationship exists between the dependent variables. Generally the transient may be determined by a graphical or step-by-step process.

Transformer magnetizing inrush currents

Electrical Engineering, 1951
THERE ARE formulas available by which it is possible to calculate the peak of the first cycle of magnetizing inrush current for a transformer. There have been no convenient formulas available for determining the maximum values of successive cycles of current.

Capacitive current switching of Vacuum Interrupters and inrush currents

2012 25th International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum (ISDEIV), 2012
Capacitive current switching has become increasingly necessary for power factor correction in distribution systems. However, Restrikes are potentially dangerous as they could cause overvoltage which can be harmful to the power system. The dielectric strength of the Vacuum Interrupter (VI) in a capacitive current switching is strongly determined by a ...

The Inrush Current Eliminator of Transformer

2012
In the power industry, transformers are key components for electrical energy transfer. However, the transformer always is affected by inrush current problems of itself. The inrush currents will cause power system network with voltage dip, harmonic, over-voltage, sympathetic current and mal-trip of protective relay and so on.

Analysis on performance of inrush current identification algorithms under sympathetic inrush

7th IET International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management (APSCOM 2006), 2006
This paper is concerned with sympathetic interaction between two transformers caused by inrush transients in order to discuss whether the existing inrush current identification algorithms are applicable to sympathetic inrush. Based on models of two transformers in parallel and in series operation, the influencing factors such as system resistance ...

REDUCTION OF THE INRUSH CURRENTS OF THREE-PHASE POWER TRANSFORMERS

Journal of Energy - Energija, 2022
Inrush currents that occur during the energization of a three-phase power transformer can reach very high values and cause many problems in an power system. A mathematical model of a transformer has been developed for the investigation of this problem, taking into account the effects of saturation, hysteresis and remanent magnetic flux.

The Effect of Inrush Current on Transformer Protection

2006 38th North American Power Symposium, 2006
Transformers are key components for electrical energy transfer in power system. Stability and security of transformer protection are important to system operation; we found that many mal-trip cases of transformer protection are caused by inrush current problems.

Optimization of Inrush Current in Electrical Transformer

2014 International Conference on Smart Electric Grid (ISEG), 2014
Paper narrates the optimization of residual flux in network transformers by using MATLAB Simulation. The purpose of the paper is to mitigation a large inrush currents taken by various transformers when a feeder is energized. Here Time-domain simulations are used to prove that a small-power device can substantially reduce the residual flux of all ...

Current transformer performance for inrush current in power transformers

Electric Power Systems Research, 1988
Abstract A mathematical model has been developed for a current transformer to predict the transient performance during switch-in of a power transformer with residual flux. Typical 50 - 100 - 200/1 and 300/1 current transformers have been simulated and the secondary current response has been computed for different values of the current transformer ...
