Automatic Power System Restoration With Inrush Current Estimation For Industrial Facility

IEEE/IAS Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference, 2021
The power system industry often operates close to its limits to accommodate the increased demand posing a high risk of blackouts. Power system restoration techniques are utilized post breakout focusing on load pickup and speedy recovery.

Magnetization current inrush in transformers

Electrical Engineering, 1951
ANALYTICAL solutions to nonlinear transients such as the phenomena of inrush currents in transformers are notoriously difficult to obtain unless a simple, convenient relationship exists between the dependent variables. Generally the transient may be determined by a graphical or step-by-step process.

An Outphase-Interleaved Switched-Capacitor Hybrid Buck Converter With Relieved Capacitor Inrush Current and COUT-Free Operations

IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits
This article presents an efficient buck converter design using the proposed outphase-interleaved hybrid switched-capacitor (OISC) topology. The outphase-interleaved switched-capacitor (SC) cells significantly extend the $C_{\mathrm {F}}$ charge ...

Harmonic Current and Inrush Fault Current Coordinated Suppression Method for VSG Under Non-ideal Grid Condition

IEEE transactions on power electronics, 2021
For the virtual synchronous generator, the voltage-controlled harmonic suppression method will seriously deteriorate the magnitude of inrush fault current in the moment of grid symmetrical fault, because the suppression effects of harmonic current and ...

Transformer magnetizing inrush currents

Electrical Engineering, 1951
THERE ARE formulas available by which it is possible to calculate the peak of the first cycle of magnetizing inrush current for a transformer. There have been no convenient formulas available for determining the maximum values of successive cycles of current.

Analysis on performance of inrush current identification algorithms under sympathetic inrush

7th IET International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management (APSCOM 2006), 2006
This paper is concerned with sympathetic interaction between two transformers caused by inrush transients in order to discuss whether the existing inrush current identification algorithms are applicable to sympathetic inrush. Based on models of two transformers in parallel and in series operation, the influencing factors such as system resistance ...

A Closed-Loop Soft Startup Strategy to Suppress Inrush Current for Full-Bridge Modular Multilevel Converters

IEEE transactions on power electronics
Aim to charge all submodule (SM) capacitors of the full-bridge modular multilevel converter (FB-MMC) to their nominal voltage values smoothly and effectively, this article proposes a closed-loop soft startup strategy by utilizing the negative output ...

Transformer inrush - Harmonics in the current

2018 19th International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE), 2018
When transformer is energized, a transient current up to 10 to 15 times larger than the rated transformer current can flow for several cycles. The differential protections are mainly sensitive during this time, as the inrush current flows just on one site of the transformer and so it creates false differential current.

Analysis of Start-Up Response in a Digitally Controlled Boost Converter With Constant Power Load and Mitigation of Inrush Current Problems

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems Part 1: Regular Papers, 2020
In this paper, the start-up response of a digitally controlled dc-dc boost converter with a constant power load is studied. A mathematical expression of the system response during start-up is derived using a nonlinear averaged model.

Flux Error Function Based Controlled Switching Method for Minimizing Inrush Current in 3-Phase Transformer

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2020
Energization of the transformer leads to large magnetizing current called inrush current. It results in reduction in transformer life, reduction in circuit breaker life, and power quality issues in the system.
