Transformer Inrush and Rectifier Transient Currents

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1969
Formulas are developed and curves given for the magnetizing inrush current for a single-phase transformer. Series system inductance and resistance are included. The transformer is assumed to have no exciting current below saturation and constant saturated inductance above saturation.

Magnetising inrush current in transformers: an overview

International Journal of Energy Technology and Policy, 2011
In India, the failure rate of distribution transformers has been reported very high especially in the rural and remote areas. In these areas, frequent inrush current is produced in distribution transformers during their energisation. The generation of inrush current during each energisation may be dangerous for health of the distribution transformers ...

Identifying inrush current using sinusoidal proximity factor

2010 Conference Proceedings IPEC, 2010
This paper presents a novel scheme based sinusoidal proximity factor (SPF) for distinguishing between inrush currents and internal fault currents in transformers, which is derived from the sinusoidal characteristics of the waveforms. First, the SPF is defined and its calculation method and the criterion to identify the internal faults and inrush ...

Transformer Inrush Current Problems and Solutions

2013
Inrush current is magnetizing current which occurs during switching of unloaded transformer on to electric grid. Amplitude of this current can reach high amounts which are 3 to 40 times higher than nominal rated current of transformers and amount of these current grows with transformer power.
