SOME GALL-INSECTS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Canadian Entomologist, 1902
Holcaspis Arizonica, n. sp.– Gall globular, 9 mm. diam, pale ochreous, not shiny, attached to the base of the petiole of a leaf of Quercus Arizonica, Sargent. There is a projecting point next to the place of insertion. Within, the gall is brown, fibrous, moderately dense, at least dithalamous.Fly emerging April 19, two females. Body 3½ mm.

Insect gall occurrence in savanna and forest remnant sites of Hidrolândia, GO, Brazil Central

open access: yesPapéis Avulsos de Zoologia, 2018
In this study we perform an inventory of the insect galls in savanna and forest sites of Hidrolândia, Goiás, Brazil. We found 150 insect gall morphotypes, distributed on 39 botanical families and 104 plant species.

Heritable Phytohormone Profiles of Poplar Genotypes Vary in Resistance to a Galling Aphid

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2019
Insect galls are highly specialized structures arising from atypical development of plant tissue induced by insects. Galls provide the insect enhanced nutrition and protection against natural enemies and environmental stresses.

Photochemical performance and source-sink relationships in galls induced by Pseudophacopteron longicaudatum (Hemiptera) on leaves of Aspidosperma tomentosum (Apocynaceae)

open access: yesPhotosynthetica, 2020
The establishment of the galling insect generates a biotic stress that leads to tissue transformation. However, galls can maintain chlorophyll (Chl) and consequently photosynthesize. Herein, we evaluated the consequences of the biotic stress generated by

Characterization of insect galls from a vegetation area in Altinópolis, São Paulo State, Brazil

open access: yesPapéis Avulsos de Zoologia, 2019
Herein, we studied the occurrence of insect galls from natural vegetation around the Itambé Cave, Altinópolis, SP, Brazil. A sampling effort of 7.5 hours resulted in 41 gall morphotypes on 21 host plant species from 14 families.

ON THE NATURAL HISTORY OF GALL INSECTS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Canadian Entomologist, 1878
The natural history of the interesting gall insects is still somewhat mysterious. A large number of observations have been made here and in Europe by prominent Entomologists; nevertheless, a careful study of the most detailed papers always gives the impression that something is still wanting to explain the various facts related by the authors.

Antioxidant defense response in a galling insect [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2007
Herbivorous insect species are constantly challenged with reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated from endogenous and exogenous sources. ROS produced within insects because of stress and prooxidant allelochemicals produced by host plants in response to herbivory require a complex mode of antioxidant defense during insect/plant ...

Guilds in Insect Galls: Who is Who

open access: yesFlorida Entomologist, 2019
Evolutionary and biological patterns can be obscured by inadequate or ill-defined terminology, especially when referring to ecological interactions.

A Preliminary Study of the Insect Galls of Iowa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1942
The abnormal growths frequently found on plants and known as insect galls have led to much study of their origin and manner of development. These abnormal plant structures may vary from a simple fold-like gall on a leaf to a highly complex structure ...
