Controlling sap-sucking insect pests with recombinant endophytes expressing plant lectin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We developed a novel pest management strategy, which uses endophytes to express anti-pest plant lectins. Fungal endophyte of Chaetomium globosum YY-11 with anti-fungi activities was isolated from rape seedlings, and bacterial endophytes of SJ-10 ...

Hijacking the Host Clock: A Nematode Effector Antagonizes Soybean Circadian Defense and Translation Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soybean employs its circadian clock, governed by GmCCA1, to rhythmically defend against soybean cyst nematodes. The pathogen retaliates by secreting the effector Hg4E02, which hijacks the clock to suppress defense and co‐opt the host's translation machinery for nutrient acquisition.

A study of population growth of Sitophilus oryzae L. and Sitophilus granarius L. in single and mixed culture in wheat and rice : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Plant Science at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Biological interactions between organisms which contend for the same resource, have been of interest to ecologists since the days of Darwin. Although this sort of association is evident for many animal-versus-animal and plant-versus-plant situations, one

Progress and bottlenecks in the early domestication of the perennial oilseed Silphium integrifolium, a sunflower substitute [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Silflower (Silphium integrifolium Michx.) is in the early stages of domestication as a perennial version of oilseed sunflower, its close relative. Grain crops with deep perennial root systems will provide farmers with new alternatives for managing soil ...

Integration of Spatiotemporal Multi‐Omics in Peach Fruit Unravels a Metabolic Niche and the Genetic Basis of Trichome‐Mediated Stress Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study constructed the first spatiotemporal multi‐omics map of peach fruit and discovered a key candidate gene that synergistically regulates trichome development and drought tolerance through the jasmonic acid signaling pathway, providing insights into the coupling mechanism between development and stress resistance.

Entomopathogenic Fungus Treatment Affects Trophic Interactions by Altering Volatile Emissions in Tomato

open access: yesAgronomy
Entomopathogenic fungi (EPFs) can influence plant–insect interactions through complex molecular and chemical mechanisms. This study investigates how EPF treatment of tomato plants modulates volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and subsequent trophic

Impact of a direct seeding, mulch-based, conservation agriculture (DMC) rainfed rice-based system on soil pest and striga infestation and damage in Madagascar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Direct seeding, Mulch-based, Conservation agriculture (DMC) systems are being extended in Madagascar in view of reducing erosion and loss of fertility of hill slope soils observed in conventional rainfed systems. However, little is known on their effects

Survey of rice diseases and insect pests in Northern Ghana

open access: yesJournal of Science and Technology (Ghana), 2006
A survey was conducted in some rice-growing areas of northern Ghana during the rainy seasons of August-November; 1996-98 to determine the prevalence of rice pests with emphasis on diseases. Brown spot (Bipolaris oryzae) was identified as an emerging threat to rice production in the low-input cropping systems of the areas. Leaf blast (Pyricularia oryzae)

The landscape and evolutionary dynamics of derived lncRNAs in insects

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) function as crucial regulatory elements in eukaryotes, yet have remained largely unexplored across diverse insect lineages. We present a comprehensive analysis of lncRNA atlases across 115 insect species, identifying 647,691
