Abstract Environmental factors, including airborne toxicants, are thought to contribute to the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis, although the exact mechanism is not fully understood. The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the impact of pesticide, N,N‐diethyl‐meta‐toluamide (DEET), on the sinonasal epithelium using an in vivo murine model ...

Physical Basis of Insect Repellency [PDF]
THE physical basis of insect repellency being unknown, the search for new repellents has had to be conducted on an essentially hit-or-miss basis. With the accumulation of evidence that the odours of substances may be correlated with the low-frequency, fundamental vibrations of their molecules1, it seemed worth while to examine the absorption of some ...

Robust β‐myrcene block copolymer elastomeric vitrimers
Myrcene‐based vitrimeric elastomers were compared: statistical (poly(styrene‐stat‐myrcene‐stat‐AAEMA)] versus ‘hard–soft’ diblock (poly(styrene)‐block‐poly(myrcene‐co‐AAEMA)). The diblock's ability to anchor the glassy poly(styrene) blocks in a self‐assembled microstructure was effective – leading to four times higher tensile stress and ten times ...

Genetically modified (GM) sweet‐oranges with downregulated CitMTSE1 gene showed reduced citrus black spot severity and citrus canker incidence, confirming terpene modulation as a promising strategy for sustainable field citrus disease resistance. Abstract BACKGROUND Citrus black spot (CBS), caused by Phyllosticta citricarpa, and citrus canker (CC ...

A set of ontologies to drive tools for the control of vector-borne diseases [PDF]
We are developing a set of ontologies that deal with vector-borne diseases and the arthropod vectors that transmit them. For practical reasons (application priorities), we initiated this project with an ontology of insecticide resistance followed by a ...

What are the vector species of the Oropouche virus?
Here, we review the timeline of Oropouche virus (OROV) detection in various hematophagous Diptera, from 1955 to date, including mosquitoes and midges. All vector competence experiments also are described. The results suggest that Culicoides are the primary vectors.
