How Competitive Is Myanmar's Rice Sector? A Comparison of Production Costs and Efficiency

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper analyzes the cost competitiveness of rice production in Myanmar by examining production costs, cost efficiency, and the potential effect of improving cost efficiency on the country's global competitiveness. To achieve this, we conduct a comparative analysis of production costs among major rice‐producing countries and estimate the ...

Simulating evolutionary responses of an introgressed insect resistance trait for ecological effect assessment of transgene flow: a model for supporting informed decisionmaking in environmental risk assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Predicting outcomes of transgene flow from arable crops requires a system perspective that considers ecological and evolutionary processes within a landscape context.

Water deprivation induces biochemical changes without reduction in the insecticidal activity of maize and soybean transgenic plants

open access: yes, 2021
Like conventional crops, transgenic plants expressing insecticidal toxins from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) are subjected to water deprivation. However, the effects of water deprivation over the insecticidal activity of Bt plants are not well understood ...

Effect of extracts of plants with insecticidal activity on the control of Microtheca ochroloma Stal (Col: Chrysomelidae) in the laboratory [PDF]

open access: yesBiotemas, 2008
Extracts of plants with insecticidal activity were tested on the control of Microtheca ochroloma (Col.: Chrysomelidae), an important insect-pest of Brassicaceae, in the larval and adult phases. Two 3-day-old larvae, kept under laboratory conditions (25ºC

Transgenic Bt crops and resistance: Broadscale use of pest-killing plants to be true test

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1998
More than 10 million acres of transgenic insect-resistant crops, including cotton, corn and potatoes, were planted in the United States in 1998 — and growers are on the verge of much more extensive plantings.

Bioactivity of Cabralea canjerana (Vell.) Mart. (Meliaceae) in the control of Acanthoscelides obtectus (Coleoptera, Bruchidae) in the laboratory [PDF]

open access: yesBiotemas, 2010
The bioactivity of Cabralea canjerana (Vell.) Mart, a common tree species in the western region of Santa Catarina, was tested with Acanthoscelides obtectus Say (Coleptera: Bruchidae), an important insect-pest that can cause damage to bean seeds.

Novel genes for insect resistance in transgenic plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
From a cDNA library of potato tuber, cDNAs for the potato carboxypeptidase inhibitors were isolated and characterised by DNA sequencing. One full length clone of each type was used to make plant expression constructs, and these constructs used to ...

Evolutionary, Functional and Mechanistic Characterisation of Microbial Terpene Synthase‐Like Genes From Springtails

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A genome analysis revealed the presence of many bacterial‐type terpene synthases in springtails. Four enzymes from Sinella curviseta were functionally characterised, resulting in the isolation of several compounds including sinellene ether, the first diterpene ether identified from a terpene synthase that represents a novel skeleton.
