The principal arboviral vector Aedes aegypti can develop in coastal brackish water field habitats (0.5–15 g/L salt) with larvae possessing thicker cuticles and greater resistance to the larvicide Temephos. Females emerging from brackish water‐developing preimaginal stages are now shown to have thicker and remodelled leg and abdominal cuticles and ...

Background Malaria remains a major public health concern in Sub-Saharan Africa, where prevention efforts such as insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) play a critical role in reducing transmission. However, malaria prevalence varies across geographic areas and

Densities of all Anopheles species were approximately comparable across all IRS regimes. No differences observed between treatment regimes regarding species composition of the Anopheles funestus group or An. gambiae complex. This operational pilot demonstrates the practical feasibility of IRS micro‐mosaics, despite the inherent increase in deployment ...

The Game-Theoretical Model of Using Insecticide-Treated Bed-Nets to Fight Malaria [PDF]
Malaria infection is a major problem in many countries. The use of the Insecticide-Treated BedNets (ITNs) has been shown to significantly reduce the number of malaria infections; however, the effectiveness is often jeopardized by improper handling or human behavior such as inconsistent usage.

Combining organophosphate treated wall linings and long-lasting insecticidal nets for improved control of pyrethroid resistant Anopheles gambiae. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: New approaches to delivering insecticides need to be developed to improve malaria vector control. Insecticidal durable wall lining (DL) and net wall hangings (NWH) are novel alternatives to indoor residual spraying which can be produced in a ...

Assessments of Anopheles arabiensis behaviour around bed nets using partial adhesive treatments
Understanding the behaviour of malaria vectors could lead to improved designs of partially treated insecticidal nets and low-cost nets with less insecticide content.

Nine ant taxa were identified in a Brazilian hospital, with Tapinoma melanocephalum and Dorymyrmex brunneus being the most abundant. Eighty‐five percent of collected ants yielded detectable bacterial growth, including clinically relevant genera such as Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, Escherichia coli and Pluralibacter.

Combining unrelated insecticides for improved control and management of insecticide resistant African malaria vectors [PDF]
It is now generally accepted that if nothing is done and insecticide resistance in malaria vectors especially to pyrethroids eventually led to widespread failure of current vector control strategies, the progress achieved so far in reducing the burden of

ABSTRACT Background Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a major public health challenge in Ethiopia, with 20–30,000 new cases annually. Limited awareness and misconceptions contribute to delayed care seeking, stigma, prolonged healing, and reduced uptake of preventive measures in CL‐endemic communities.

A voucher scheme for insectide treated nets in Ghana: development of a methodology for delivery systems evaluation [PDF]
The key to effective scaling-up of coverage with insecticide treated nets is multiple effective delivery systems that are complementary, each one adding incrementally to the overall coverage. Generally, individual systems have been studied.
