PERCEPTIONS OF MALARIA AND THE UTILISATION OF LONG LASTING INSECTICIDE TREATED NETS IN A RURAL NIGER DELTA COMMUNITY IN NIGERIA [PDF]
Introduction: Malaria represents a heavy disease burden with high death tolls in sub-Saharan countries, particularly among children less than five years of age and pregnant women.

Take flight: predation risk induces wing polyphenism and dispersal in the aphid Myzus persicae
Predator risk above a critical density induces winged morphs in Myzus persicae, promoting dispersal and reducing predation compared with wingless aphids. This density‐dependent phenotypic plasticity enhances survival but may compromise biological control by facilitating aphid dispersal.

Sublethal herbicide exposure alters cotton susceptibility to aphid infestation
Sublethal herbicide exposure altered cotton susceptibility to aphids. Aphid severity was highest when applications occurred at early vegetative stages and declined as the crop matured. In glasshouse, herbicide effects were dose‐dependent. Abstract BACKGROUND Herbicides remain vital tools for weed control, yet their effects can extend beyond weeds to ...

Background In 2020, Malawi had 6.9 million malaria cases and 2551 deaths, mainly in children under five years of age. The 2017–2022 Malawi malaria control strategic plan promoted the consistent use of insecticide-treated nets through free distribution ...

This review bridges the gap between understanding resistance mechanisms and applying them in weed management, highlighting how mechanistic insights reveal vulnerabilities that can guide more effective control strategies. Abstract Herbicide resistance remains one of the most intensively studied areas in weed science because of its direct consequences ...

Combining unrelated insecticides for improved control and management of insecticide resistant African malaria vectors [PDF]
It is now generally accepted that if nothing is done and insecticide resistance in malaria vectors especially to pyrethroids eventually led to widespread failure of current vector control strategies, the progress achieved so far in reducing the burden of

Control efficacy of three types of non‐insecticidal consumer products were examined in laboratory, simulated‐use, and field conditions. Freeze spray and ‘repellent lamp’ showed limited efficacy, whereas various results in attraction in light trap were reported.

The approval of the RNA interference‐based biopesticide Ledprona (Calantha™) in the USA marks a milestone for RNA‐based crop protection. We discuss the regulatory implications for the European Union, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and the need for adapted risk assessment frameworks for RNA‐based plant protection products.

Application of optimal control to the epidemiology of malaria
Malaria is a deadly disease transmitted to humans through the bite of infected female mosquitoes. In this paper a deterministic system of differential equations is presented and studied for the transmission of malaria.

Owing to the development of pyrethroid resistance in Anopheles gambiae, there is a need to develop chemical alternatives for use on mosquito nets. Synthetic insect repellents are widely used for personal protection as skin or clothing applications.
