Insecticide resistance is an increasing problem worldwide that limits the efficacy of control methods against several pests of health interest. Among them, Aedes albopictus mosquitoes are efficient vectors of relevant pathogens causing animal and human ...

Modeling and Optimal Control Applied to a Vector Borne Disease [PDF]
A model with six mutually-exclusive compartments related to Dengue disease is presented. In this model there are three vector control tools: insecticides (larvicide and adulticide) and mechanical control. The problem is studied using an Optimal Control (OC) approach. The human data for the model is based on the Cape Verde Dengue outbreak.

THE XENOBIOTIC TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR CAP N COLLAR C REGULATES EXPRESSION OF MULTIPLE INSECTICIDE RESISTANT GENES [PDF]
Insecticide resistance is a global problem. Insecticide resistance management is very important, considering the time, effort, and cost of discovering and developing a new insecticide.

A Possible Link Between Pyriproxyfen and Microcephaly [PDF]
The Zika virus is the primary suspect in the large increase in microcephaly cases in 2015-6 in Brazil, however its role is unconfirmed despite individual cases of viral infections found in neural tissue. Here we consider the alternative that the insecticide pyriproxyfen, used in Brazilian drinking water for mosquito control, may actually be the cause ...

Bifenthrin Baseline Susceptibility and Evaluation of Simulated Aerial Applications in \u3ci\u3eStriacosta albicosta\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) [PDF]
Striacosta albicosta (Smith) is a maize pest that has recently expanded its geographical range into the eastern United States and southeastern Canada. Aerial application of pyrethroids, such as bifenthrin, has been a major practice adopted to manage this

The Case for Pyriproxyfen as a Potential Cause for Microcephaly; From Biology to Epidemiology [PDF]
The Zika virus has been found in individual cases but has not been confirmed as the cause of in the large number of cases of microcephaly in Brazil in 2015-6. Indeed, disparities between the incidence of Zika and microcephaly across geographic locations has led to questions about the virus's role.
