Insecticide mixtures for mosquito net impregnation against malaria vectors

open access: yesParasite, 2002
Insecticides belonging to the pyrethroid family are the only compounds currently available for the treatment of mosquito nets. Unfortunately, some malaria vector species have developed resistance to pyrethroids and the lack of alternative chemical ...

The combination of indoor residual spraying with insecticide-treated nets versus insecticide-treated nets alone for preventing malaria

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2017
This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: To evaluate whether indoor residual spraying (IRS) in combination with long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs)/insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) causes an additional reduction to malaria transmission versus LLINs/ITNs alone.

Preventing childhood malaria in Africa by protecting adults from mosquitoes with insecticide-treated nets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Malaria prevention in Africa merits particular attention as the world strives toward a better life for the poorest. Insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) represent a practical means to prevent malaria in Africa, so scaling up coverage to at least 80% of young ...

Combining unrelated insecticides for improved control and management of insecticide resistant African malaria vectors [PDF]

open access: yes
It is now generally accepted that if nothing is done and insecticide resistance in malaria vectors especially to pyrethroids eventually led to widespread failure of current vector control strategies, the progress achieved so far in reducing the burden of

Community evaluation of the physical and insecticidal durability of DuraNet® Plus, an alpha-cypermethrin and piperonyl butoxide incorporated mosquito net: protocol for a multi-country study in West, Central and East Africa

open access: yesArchives of Public Health, 2023
Background Pyrethroid-PBO nets have demonstrated improved impact against clinical malaria transmitted by pyrethroid resistant mosquito vectors and are being scaled up across Africa.

Which family members use the best nets? An analysis of the condition of mosquito nets and their distribution within households in Tanzania. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
BACKGROUND: Household ownership of insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs) is increasing, and coverage targets have been revised to address universal coverage with ITNs.

Dyeing Process May Alter the Efficacy of Insecticide-Treated Nets

open access: yesJournal of Medical Entomology, 2006
The biological efficacy as judged by mortality against Anopheles gambiae s.s. of three net samples, one white and two colored, treated with deltamethrin by conventional dipping was compared. Efficacy as well as chemical analysis results showed that uptake of insecticide by white net material was much higher than by colored nets.

Inequalities in purchase of mosquito nets and willingness to pay for insecticide-treated nets in Nigeria: Challenges for malaria control interventions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Objective: To explore the equity implications of insecticide-treated nets (ITN) distribution programmes that are based on user charges. Methods: A questionnaire was used to collect information on previous purchase of untreated nets and hypothetical ...
