An organophosphate insecticide: Chlorpyrifos

Extrapyramidal Parkinsonism Complicating Acute Organophosphate Insecticide Poisoning
Pediatric Neurology, 2005The aim of this study is to report our experience with a child who developed extrapyramidal perturbations complicating acute organophosphate insecticides poisoning and to review the literature reporting on basal ganglia impairment associated with this poisoning.

Extra-pyramidal parkinsonism complicating organophosphate insecticide poisoning
European Journal of Paediatric Neurology, 2001We present a 1 7-year-old female with acute extra-pyramidal parkinsonism complicating a suicidal attempt with the organophosphate insecticide chlorpyrifos, who was initially suspected to have developed severe depression or psychosis. On admission she was stupurous, with diarrhoea and massive salivation lapsing into respiratory failure and coma ...

IMPACT OF ATRAZINE ON ORGANOPHOSPHATE INSECTICIDE TOXICITY
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 2000AbstractAcute toxicity of selected organophosphorus insecticides (OPs; chlorpyrifos, methyl parathion, diazinon, and malathion) was determined for individual OPs and binary combinations of the OPs with atrazine to larvae of the midge Chironomus tentans.

Chromosome studies in workers producing organophosphate insecticides
Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1979The chromatid-type and labile chromosome-type aberrations occurred frequently in the factory-employees control group, probably caused by airborne pollution. Workers producing TECB (1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene) showed a cluster of chromosome aberrations. No appreciable increase was found in the lindane workers; chromatid-type aberrations were moderately ...

Mechanisms of organophosphate insecticide-induced airway hyperreactivity
American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 2004It has been suggested that pesticide exposure may be a contributing factor underlying the increased incidence of asthma in the United States and other industrialized nations. To test this hypothesis, airway hyperreactivity was measured in guinea pigs exposed to chlorpyrifos, a widely used organophosphate pesticide.

Insecticidal organophosphates: Nature made them first
Experientia, 1987Out of the three most important classes of synthetic insecticides only the carbamates and pyrethroids were known to have ancestors in nature. Now two organophosphates (which are quite good insecticides and very potent acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, e.g. comparable to carbofuran) have been isolated fromStreptomyces antibioticus strain DSM 1951.

Mechanisms of Toxicological Interactions Involving Organophosphate Insecticides
Toxicological Sciences, 1984Administration of apparently nontoxic doses of organophosphorus compounds can greatly alter the toxicity of other compounds. These might include other organophosphates, as well as other drug or nondrug xenobiotics. Mechanisms of toxicologic interactions are discussed.

Prolonged succinylcholine-induced paralysis in organophosphate insecticide poisoning
Annals of Emergency Medicine, 1987A case of prolonged succinylcholine-induced paralysis in a child with organophosphate insecticide poisoning is presented. Three hours and 15 minutes of apnea after the administration of succinylcholine was attributed to a decreased rate of succinylcholine metabolism from inhibition of pseudocholinesterase by the insecticide.
