Recovery and Degradation Drive Changes in the Dispersal Capacity of Stream Macroinvertebrate Communities. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol
Freshwater ecosystems across Europe are recovering unevenly despite restoration efforts, partly due to the limited ability of many species to disperse. Using a dataset of over 1300 time series, we found that improved ecological quality often leads to gains in macroinvertebrate species with strong dispersal capacities, while degrading sites lose these ...

Complex and nonlinear climate‐driven changes in freshwater insect communities over 42 years

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 34, Issue 5, Page 1241-1251, October 2020., 2020
Abstract The ongoing biodiversity crisis becomes evident in the widely observed decline in abundance and diversity of species, profound changes in community structure, and shifts in species’ phenology. Insects are among the most affected groups, with documented decreases in abundance up to 76% in the last 25–30 years in some terrestrial ecosystems ...

ESTRUCTURA NUMÉRICA DE LOS INSECTOS ACUÁTICOS EN LA DERIVA Y SU RELACIÓN CON LA COMUNIDAD BENTÓNICA, EN UN TRAMO DEL RÍO ZARATÍ, PROVINCIA DE COCLÉ, PANAMÁ

open access: yesTecnociencia, 2022

Water‐saving strategies in rice farming entail cascading effects in prey–predator interactions across ecosystem boundaries

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 9, Page 2273-2282, September 2025.
These results show that introducing multiple drainage periods in rice fields (i.e. AWD) indirectly hampers terrestrial spider reproduction through limiting the emergence of potential preys from the aquatic to terrestrial boundaries. MSD resulted in a more conciliatory strategy as it largely reduces methane emissions and does not affect predator–prey ...

Pyraloid Moth Assemblages Exhibit Complex Morphological Patterns Across an Ecuadorian Mountainous Forest

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 3, May 2025.
In this study, we examined how morphological traits and species diversity of Pyraloidea moths vary with temperature and vegetation cover along an Andean rainforest gradient in Ecuador. Using 4161 individuals (212 species) and cross‐validating with a larger dataset of 10,337 individuals (749 morpho‐species), we found a near‐linear decrease in diversity ...

Ecology and diversity of mosquito larvae in ponds and lagoons of Northwestern Spain Ecología y diversidad de las larvas de mosquitos en charcas y lagunas del noroeste de España

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 38-47, March 2024.
Most of the lagoons and ponds in Galicia (Spain) function as mosquito breeding sites. Species of health concern are among the most commonly found in the study area. Anopheles maculipennis s.l. is widely distributed, being especially common in rural areas. Culex pipiens and Culex theileri are common in urban areas.
