Artificial Nervous Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By drawing inspiration from biological neural hierarchies and the working mechanisms of plasticity, researchers have constructed a series of bionic devices, including sensory devices, synapse devices, and artificial neural systems. They committed to simulating and surpassing the biological information processing function, thereby realizing the ...

Polo‐Like Kinase 1 Phosphorylation Tunes the Functional Viscoelastic Properties of the Centrosome Scaffold

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To enable mitotic spindle assembly during cell division, centrosomes must bear tensile stresses generated by microtubule‐mediated pulling forces. Micro‐rheology reveals that PLK‐1 phosphorylation of the scaffold protein SPD‐5 tunes the viscoelasticity, size, and morphology of the centrosome scaffold in C. elegans.

Insects, Enemies of Insects

open access: yes, 1953
A common sight in the country is the large gray paper nest built by the bald-faced hornet. Generally it hangs from the stout limb of a tree at the edge of a forest. Within the nest the hornets live a social life much like that of the honey bee. Each nest has a single queen, the mother of the other members of the colony. The workers, the sterile females,

Alkaline–Acid Intestine Environment Controlled by A Carbonic Anhydrase Gene Influences Synthesis of Sex Pheromone by Symbionts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A model proposing that elevated rectal expression of CAh1 in males alkalinizes the environment to regulate Bacillus production of a male‐specific sex pheromone. Abstract The intricate interplay between animals and their intestinal microbes is pivotal in shaping various aspects of animal biology.
