Investigating the effect of tool surface micro-texturing on self-propelled rotary tools used for machining aluminum 7075

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This study investigates the effects of using texture in machining with rotary tools. Textures can help reduce surface roughness by minimizing the chip/insert contact area.

Disengagement of Polyethylene Insert Locking Mechanism in Modular Tibial Components for Knee Arthroplasty: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesTravmatologiâ i Ortopediâ Rossii
Background. Modular tibial components for knee arthroplasty are used in the majority of modern knee replacement systems. Despite a number of limitations, there are many aspects that make these types of implants indispensable for orthopedic surgeons ...

Comparison of the Load-Deflection Characteristics of Aesthetic and Conventional Super Elastic Ni-Ti Orthodontic Arch Wires in Conventional and Metal-Insert Ceramic Brackets [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2016
Introduction: Coated arch wires and ceramic brackets have been introduced to improve aesthetics during orthodontic treatment. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of coating on the physical properties of aesthetic orthodontic ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Experimental & numerical investigation of heat transfer using twisted tapes with rectangular cuts [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The current work focuses on using rectangular inserts with water as the working fluid to investigate heat transfer experimentally and numerically in a horizontal circular tube [10]. The study considers variations in the number of rectangular slots within

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Investigation of wear of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene in a soft tissue behaviour knee joint prosthesis wear test simulator

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
Knee joint prostheses are commonly employed for therapy in over-use disorder, and as a result of traffic accident and sports injuries. However, errors that can occur due to their use need to be defined.

Influence of Cutting Parameters and Tool Geometry on Topography of Hard Turned Surfaces

open access: yesMachines, 2023
Three-dimensional topography measurement is a focus area of precision machining because it provides detailed information on the functional behavior of contacting surfaces.
