First clinical implementation of insertion force measurement in cochlear implantation surgery

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
PurposeThe significance of atraumatic electrode array (EA) insertion in cochlear implant (CI) surgery is widely acknowledged, with consensus that forces due to EA insertion are directly correlated with insertion trauma.

Smaller is better: nanobodies meet NMR

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nanobodies are single‐domain antigen‐binding fragments derived from camelid heavy chain antibodies. Their small size, high stability, and exceptional specificity make nanobodies uniquely useful probes for NMR studies of protein dynamics, transient conformational states, and protein–protein interactions.

Invasive monitoring of the clinical effects of high intra-abdominal pressure for insertion of the first trocar. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: To analyze the effects of transitory, high intra-abdominal pressure on clinical, hemodynamic, blood gas and metabolic parameters. Methods: Sixty-seven laparoscopic patients were divided into groups P12 (n = 30, maximum ...

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Comparative analysis of LMA Blockbuster® clinical performance: Blind versus Miller laryngoscope-guided insertion in paediatric general anaesthesia – A double-blinded, randomised controlled trial

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia
Background and Aims: The second-generation supraglottic airway device is conventionally inserted blindly, which might result in suboptimal placement. Limited literature exists on under-vision insertion techniques, particularly in paediatric patients. The

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.
