Mechanical Intelligence in Bone Regeneration: Bridging Material and Cellular Memory for Enhanced Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
Mechanical intelligence reframes bone regeneration as a time‐dependent coupling between material and cellular memory. Biomaterials store and release mechanical history, while cells retain prior cues and remodel the repair niche. Matching these memories to healing stages may guide stage‐specific scaffolds, sensing‐assisted prediction, mechanical dosing,

An Accelerometer‐Equipped Running Watch Provides a Valid Estimate of Peak Vertical Ground Reaction Force and Cumulative Weighted Damage: A Cross‐Sectional Laboratory Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT We validated a wearable accelerometer and running watch for estimating peak vertical ground reaction force (vGRF) and cumulative weighted damage (CWD). First, 18 well‐trained runners of equal sex distribution (3.3 ± 0.3 m/s habitual training pace) ran a range of speeds (2.7–4.0 m/s, plus training pace) on an instrumented treadmill as reference

Surface ages of alluvial fans in the southern Central Andes recorded by ground‐ and space‐based hyperspectral reflectance

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 8, August 2026.
Secondary weathering of alluvial‐fan surfaces records the relative, and even absolute, ages of deposited sediments up to 300 ka. Hyperspectral imagery quantifies evolving mineral‐weathering pathways to unlock high‐resolution mapping and dating of these sedimentary landscapes.

Assessing Plantar Skin Epidermal Layer in Response to Various Insole Hardness via Deep Learning Enabled Optical Coherence Tomography Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, Volume 19, Issue 8, August 2026.
The changes in the plantar stratum corneum (SC) and the living epidermis (ED) at the big toe (T1), first metatarsal head (M1), and second metatarsal head (M2) were investigated after a controlled walking experiment on a treadmill at 3.6 mph using 80, 160, and 240 mmHg insole hardness for 10 and 20 min.

Sustainable P3HB:ZnO Composite Piezoelectric Nanofibers for AI‐Driven Gait Monitoring

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 8, August 2026.
This work presents an AI‐enabled framework for designing sustainable P3HB:ZnO piezoelectric nanofibers by integrating artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms to optimize material composition and electrospinning parameters. The developed nanofibers exhibit enhanced piezoelectric performance and are successfully integrated into an intelligent ...
