This chapter introduces the concept of inspiration into Amabile’s componential model of creativity, focusing on its relationship with intrinsic motivation. In doing so, the authors summarize research linking inspiration, intrinsic motivation, and creativity and detail a new empirical study on how the physical environment can inspire creativity.
