Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Zwitterionic Self‐Assembled Monolayer for Simultaneous Noise Suppression and Hole Extraction in High‐Performance Near‐Infrared Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a new hole transporting material (HTM) mechanism for self‐assembled monolayers in near‐infrared organic photodetectors. The formation of zwitterions induces a strong electric field that significantly increases the work function of HTM‐coated indium tin oxide substrates. The devices exhibit low dark current and noise, along with high

Event-triggered Consensus for Multi-agent Systems with Asymmetric and Reducible Topologies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper studies the consensus problem of multi-agent systems with asymmetric and reducible topologies. Centralized event-triggered rules are provided so as to reduce the frequency of system's updating.

Digital Actuation Control of Soft Robotic Origami With Self‐Folding Liquid Crystal Elastomer Hinges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐folding soft‐rigid hybrid robotic origami is enabled by liquid crystal elastomer actuators with embedded Joule heating and closed‐loop digital control. Digitally addressable hinges provide reversible and programmable transitions between distinct folded states while maintaining actuation performance at high cycle counts (over 1500).

Extreme-Point Symmetric Mode Decomposition Method for Data Analysis

open access: yes, 2013
An extreme-point symmetric mode decomposition (ESMD) method is proposed to improve the Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) through the following prospects: (1) The sifting process is implemented by the aid of 1, 2, 3 or more inner interpolating curves, which ...

Copper‐Based Crystalline‐Metallic Glass Composite Thin Films: A Novel Material with Enhanced Strength and Thermally Stable Nanotwins

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Cu‐based crystal‐glass composite with high‐density twins is identified by a fast screening technique using combinatorial sputtering together with XRD and nanoindentation mapping. This bamboo‐like structure demonstrates homogenous plastic flow and retains high strength during in situ high temperature tests, up to 1 GPa at 550°C, owing to those ...

Occipital and left temporal instantaneous amplitude and frequency oscillations correlated with access and phenomenal consciousness [PDF]

open access: yes
Given the hard problem of consciousness (Chalmers, 1995) there are no brain electrophysiological correlates of the subjective experience (the felt quality of redness or the redness of red, the experience of dark and light, the quality of depth in a ...
