Apoptosis as an instrument in cardiovascular development
Birth Defects Research Part C: Embryo Today: Reviews, 2005Cell death as a phenomenon in embryonic development was first described over 100 years ago. Approximately 30 years ago the process was named apoptosis, and its involvement is now recognized in many life processes, in virtually every animal species, and from fertilization to the death of an organism.

Recent developments in clinimetric instruments
Haemophilia, 2006Summary. Assessment of impairment and function is essential in order to monitor joint status and evaluate therapeutic interventions in patients with haemophilia. The improvements in the treatment of haemophilia have required the development of more sensitive tools to detect the more minor dysfunctions that may now be apparent. This paper outlines some

Software Development for Medical Instrumentation
Journal of Medical Systems, 2001Computer-assisted medical instrumentation has recently become more common. For accuracy and precision, the computer and interfacing circuit with the associated digital signal processing algorithm can be used for the evaluation of biological signal.

Further Instrumental Developments in Cineradiography
The British Journal of Radiology, 1958The use of image intensifying systems has led to a major reduction of dose to the patient in cineradiography. This technique can, therefore, be used in those cases where a study of rapidly moving physiological processes is essential, with less danger to the patients and their progeny than hitherto.

A Guide for Instrument Development and Validation
The American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 1982Abstract As occupational therapists become increasingly concerned with accountability, the paucity of adequate instrumentation available for documenting therapeutic effectiveness surfaces as a major problem. Therapists will need to construct new or refine existing instruments to satisfy the requirements of third-party payment.

The Development of Instrumentation
2013The first telescopes showed serious limitations, above all in spherical and chromatic aberrations, distorting the images and colours of the objects observed. The realization of larger glass lenses that were free from such aberrations, however, called for technology which was not available at that time.

Instrument Developments in Health Physics
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1958Abstract The performance characteristics and construction features are described for several instruments that were developed for specific applications in industrial hygiene in the nuclear energy industry. Two monitors, an automatic particle sampler and an NO2 recorder, are discussed. An apparatus for testing respirator performance is shown.

Development of an Instrument To Measure Hope
Nursing Research, 1988The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument to measure hope in adults and to evaluate its psychometric properties. A 40-item Miller Hope Scale (MHS) was developed based on critical elements of hope revealed in a comprehensive review of the literature and on an exploratory study of hope in persons who survived a critical illness.
